No worries. If I don’t laugh in certain situations, I’d hate to see the other emotions that could arise. Defense mechanism is probably a better way to look at it. Honestly you really do need a good sense of humor to even work at this clown show. By the way, I’d suspect the 3 time furlough people have had it the worst of all of us.

I agree with you 100% there. I never thought I would see ANYTHING like this and as I am on the way out the door I can't help but being upset with what guys have dealt with in the past and now having to deal with this. I toss and turn at night and laugh when I can.

All I ever wanted to do was to fly airplanes.

no this is only the first displacement. The numbers are big because entire categories are closing. No one can decipher what the final staffing levels will be but we will be smaller.

Will we not get updated percentages on the displacement bidding screen like we do for vacancies?

Its sort of meaningless to calculate now because the FOs will be artificially overstaffed.

Now we have Forbes running headlines with the dumb "4500" number.

Someone being displaced does not mean they are furloughed or that the airline doesn't have a seat for that 1 junior pilot. They are reshuffling multiple fleets with categories being consolidated. A displaced widebody CA can slide into another widebody CA seat. Will the company run another displacement to get him out of that new widebody CA slot? Did they plan for that? We dont know. Manpower gave us 30% of 2019 number. That is probably a much better guess minus retirements, early outs, the expensive nature of short term furloughs, and other union mitigation. Which is all on the table. Breathe people. Dont listen to pilots when talking about relationships, financial advice, and apparently interpreting data.

Over 2500 Captains and WB FO's (including PI paper bids) will be forced into a NB FO slot on this displacement bid (seniority <7876). They will be piling in on top of the 3100+ existing NB FOs. Many of these existing NB FOs have already received notice that their PC has been cancelled. And sadly, this is just the first round of displacements. You can bet there will be follow on's to trim the overages. So, yes, there is a lack of understanding in the numbers, but to not see a large furlough coming is to have your head in the sand. I'm breathing fine, it's just that some of us have seen this play before. The ending sucks.

Telling someone they should go back and hide in their bunker because they have a more pessimistic view (based on actual industry experience) than you do also doesn’t belong here. You see the connection?

Anyway, I honestly wish all of you the best of luck. This is going to suck for a lot of people but it will be over before you know it and then you guys are going to have record-setting careers because of all the retirements AND the fact that global air travel isn’t just some fad. It’s a mega-trend that’s going to resume its explosive growth after we get past this current sh!t.

I’ll be watching from the sidelines in a few years busy trying to keep people off my lawn.
