Default Future of Aviate

Does anyone have any insight I remember this program was huge before COVID-19. What is the status of it now?

Given the fact furloughs are likely in the near future, I would say Aviate will be put into stasis. We have a LOA that mandates any hiring at Express has to be offered to UAL furloughs. I just don’t see the need for Aviate at the present.

Wait so the LOA with UAL and there commuters they have to be offered positions at regionals. I didnt know flowbacks were a thing at united, let alone anywhere else.

Wait.
So you're saying this isn't in the original UPA?
And instead of waiting for a completely new contract, we were able to craft out an LOA that us and the company were able to negotiate a win-win on?

Very interesting.

Its LOA 12-09 and it’s a carry over from the LUAL contract. There are a number of similar examples. Your point was what exactly? This LOA was there when the contract was ratified by the members.

Not a flowback. The carrier in question has to be hiring. UA furloughs get first dibs on those positions.

Good info, Lee. Thanks. I was under the impression that LOA's were something added to an existing contract.

Although ratified to the current contract, I figured the LOA mentioned might have been an addendum to a previous L-UAL contract, but it guess I have that wrong. Thank you for the clarification.

According to the LOA, a certain number of initial offers of employment to furloughed UAL pilots are made regardless whether the express carriers are in “hiring mode“. They have to hire a certain number per airframe.
Also, when hired on this way, you’re on 2nd year pay, UAL making up the difference.
