Displaced CAs sitting FO will feel played the most. You guys really think company will let you pickup trips at CA pay while they have a surplus of FOs avail? Now that they received your yes votes, as soon as we know how many early outs we have, a vacancy bid will appear for exactly same numbers as displaced CAs, bringing you back to your seat/base. And you are forced to bid it to keep the pay protect.

Guess we’ll never know if the company actually intended to furlough and how deeply by end of year. WARN letters for 2850-3900 might have appeared starting tomorrow. Or not.

If a CARES extension remains elusive, I think 3900 letters show up 3/1/21. You got your first vote on whether everyone shows up there at reduced MPG or cuts happen along the way. I don’t think a second vote will pass, so get your house in order. For real this time.

With 30% demand the company can furlough just fine without retraining anyone.
Nevermind the facts.

The union said in one of the Q&A videos that with or without this agreement, the company could have 3,900 furloughed by summer. I believe the month they quoted was March. It’s not hard to train or staff pilots for parked planes.

Furlough Fund

So now that the TA has passed, what happens to the furlough fund since no one is on furlough? How do we stop paying into the fund?

Good question.

I heard the MEC will be suspending the payments but holding onto the funds already collected in the event of furloughs next year but have not seen an official communication yet.

FWIW, in the past furlough cycle the remaining funds were returned to the pilots once a recovery occurred. In addition, the furlough fund is a separate account and not co-mingled with general union funds.

That would be a good start, stop the deductions, and if no furloughs next year then all money should be returned

I took the entire summer off. Worth it.

I don’t think the company was in a position to furlough the numbers they advertised for October. In the bottom 2000 something like 1800 NB FO’s. I just completed NB RQ3 training in September which is the short course and all the instructors kept remarking how few people have been trained.

I think we got played and fully expect 2000 furloughs on June 1.

We're flying less than 40% of 2019 schedule. They could easily chop more than 2000 off the bottom without a single training event. Stating otherwise is _______.

IIRC, their plan at the moment is to consider returning the money next spring. Obviously, it's going to depend on how much traffic returns.
