PVG Layover

Just a heads up for anyone going to PVG.

The hotel is an absolute mess. Slimly, most disgusting hotel I think I've ever been in. The Covid procedures are a mess, no one in Shanghai knows what is going on day to day. It changes hourly.

The Chinese gov is dictating foreign crews stay in this pit. Don't do it. I will not be going back. Fair warning, the crew desk has been taking some innocuous trips, (I was supposed to go to ICN,) and changing them to PVG. That's how I got this turd.

FSAP'ed and PDR'd. I have not heard anything back from any of my reps or ALPA. My guess is it's hitting the fan about now, hopefully the system is in the process. We should not be flying to PVD as long as the Chinese gov insists layovers be in this hotel. Da Zhong Airport Hotel Shanghai. This layover is starting to show up a lot in trip trading--as in out of.

Just as a small example, the water at the hotel is not safe to drink. REally? ALPA?? MEC?? Safety??

Oh, I forgot to add, the internet is so slow, it really doesn't work. I could just barely do text based email. Constantly dropped, don't even think about graphics, or pictures. For a while I couldn't even log onto CCS, it kept timing out. And remember, it's China, so anything related to Google is blocked.

So, being held hostage, prisoner, with no internet and 1 English TV station broadcasting Gov propaganda....Swell time.

Yeah, there’s a reason FDX and UPS don’t do layovers there anymore.

Rumor has it they are locking you in the room with an armed guard in the hallway. Also heard the door is opened 3 times for your “meals” which consist of barely anything edible that you have no choice over.

So you don’t know if this is true? You haven’t personally experienced this?

It was told directly to me by someone that went there recently. Would you feel better if I substituted rumor with allegedly?

Have not seen any armed guard on my layovers in PVG. I open the door to get my food they drop off and they are not great but to say barely anything edible is a stretch. You actually order the type of food you want before you leave USA such as western, local whatever, lots of fruit, omelet in the morning. Do I bring my own food? yes I sure do but the meals delivered to your room are edible. IMO You are walked to your room and out of your room. They have a sign you put out if you want them to ring your bell when the food arrives. The refrigerator works well if you bring your own or food and drink off the plane. The wifi is not very good but I used it, and the cell works well.

I was also told about a guard, before we left but didn't have any. However, they will not give you a room key, so if you leave, you have no way back in the room.

There was no order form, no choice in the food. You get what you get. Now, it wasn't bad, but say if you wanted Hindu or vegie? You are out of luck. Oh, and the food doesn't come till about 2 hours after you are in the room. So staying awake till then is a problem. Let's see, 3 hours after block in to the room.....2 more hours for food.....held hostage.....yeah. No thanks.

No one there has any usable info, and even if they did, they have no way of communicating it.

Must be doing things different as we had choices, and also we were able to change the time of the food. Trust me Dave I don't like it all but just reporting how we saw and did things. Im sure you already did but if not let your flight office know that some bases are getting food choices. JMO
