I don’t think anyone preferred furloughs to CARES funding. Many did & still do prefer them to the specific terms of the Pandemic Recovery LOA, but that ship has obviously sailed. We’ll all just have to look back in a couple of years & decide if we made the right call; though I expect opinions on that will vary pretty widely based on personal experience.

BTW... what does "heavy water" mean?

I remember an Episode of Hogan’s Hero’s about that.

You are correct. Great show!

Delta guy here. Maybe this whole "after the fact, sell job, comparison" is more about timing.

Doesn't the UAL LOA kinda sunset in the summer as far as furlough protections? Typically, when does an informational comparison campaign start when going into a new CBA? Any chance you might need another LOA in about 6 months? If so, seems like this is not so much a backward looking sales job, but an informational competitor comparison for a likely near future event.

Not being UAL, I would like it if DAL put out something like this...kinda like we do 6-9 months prior to a new contract

I think it has more to do with the fact that UAL MEC elections are coming up, the no voters are campaigning hard and Delta’s plan is different. So different is being pushed by no voters at UAL as better because it passed with greater numbers. This is a comparison and the incumbents attempt to counter and explain why they feel it was a better deal for UAL pilots.

Going to be interesting to see if there are enough yes voters who actually still agree our LOA was best for us and if they’ll vote to keep current MEC in place because the “no” crowd is fired up.

And yes, in June 2021 United can furlough up to 2007 pilots and keep the LOA in place. Any more than that and it goes back to what we had pre LOA.

Maybe Garry or John should throw their hats in the ring.
