What about other PA areas north of Allentown? Stroudsburg? Milford?

I’m a delta guy but we moved to yardley PA from Philadelphia about two heads ago. 55 mins to 1 hour up the NJ turnpike to Newark. Traffic very rare. People from my squadron at DL, AA, UA and FedEx live within walking distance from me here. Absolutely love it for myriad reasons. PM me if you have any questions.

Doylestown area in Bucks county has been a good fit for our family.

The Lehigh Valley? Avoid it. There are tons of pilots...but...

Guns and drugs abound. There are some lovely homes and subdivisions but I regret moving here several years ago. There are many nicer places to live with a EWR base. In retrospect the higher tax rates are probably worth it.

There are more and more warehouses everywhere in The Lehigh Valley and I-78 to EWR is an unpleasant drive.

I'm surprised how much crime and violence exists. New York City and it's problems move westward...
Dude the I-78 drive to work is a piece of cake. 1hr and 5min to work with one toll which is $1.50 and that’s only coming NJ-PA. I’m living in my 11th state and overall PA isn’t bad at all. I’ve seen better and I’ve seen worse.

NYC has relatively low crime rates… even with the covid surge of craziness

Drugs and guns abound in rural areas too. What's the real reason Allentown is undesirable?

The city of Allentown is poor and violent. Check the news. I wouldn't dare send my child to a public school there.

Drugs and violence do exist in rural areas too, which is why I wouldn't recommend the Lehigh Valley.

Consider Nazareth. it is one of the better school districts in the Lehigh Valley, and one of the better areas...there are a lot of nice subdivisions surrounding the Borough proper. But...

In December there was a shooting in the town itself. A few weeks ago there was a shooting on a weekend morning outside of the Target store in Lower Nazareth. A car full of drugs was found in Nazareth a few weeks ago, and just yesterday a dead body was found in the woods adjacent to the community pool.

This is one of the better areas in the Lehigh Valley.

I would advise against the Lehigh Valley. The far Northeast suburbs of PHL are better. More expensive but better. Some areas of NJ are better. More expensive, but better.

New York City is relatively safe compared to other large cities, I agree. Not sure I would send my child to a public school in NYC though...

Just about ANYWHERE you go there are going to be 'problems.' It's about finding a locality that has a minimum of those issues, a commute you can stand, and maximum family friendliness.

We live in Palmer Township, an Easton address but north of the 'city' (it isn't much of a city) and the next town over from Nazareth. When we were looking, we wanted to get into Nazareth but couldn't find a property that was as nice as the one we found in Palmer. Enough land for the kids and the dog, enough items in the house ticked off on the wife's givens & druthers list, etc.

Kids are in the Easton School District. Okay, but with Covid and the mask issues we decided to homeschool our last kid who is in school (15 yr old). The area is okay, I should have moved the family out further west towards Macungie where we could have had more acreage for the same money with the same size house. From where we are, I average 55 minutes to an hour and 10 minutes drive time doorstep to the employee lot. Easy drive on I-78 as far as I'm concerned. The commute to JFK (I'm on the 756 fleet) has sucked, and cross town pay is not enough for the hassle...but I don't have to do it too often.

I really believe every place is what you make it; we were able to find a nice place near to a lot of outdoor activities, shopping, and just about everything my family wants except a little more sunshine....you don't have to shovel sunshine!
