it’s still not a “true” replacement for the 757, but it’s close.

Smaller 787 would be better I think for the airline, single type across a broad range. As the tech / R&D cost goes down I can see this being Boeings approach

The 757s will be in the fleet for some time. The 757-300s will be in the fleet until 2030. Also all the 757s are being sent to heavy maintenance ($1M cost per plane) and they 757-300s are being equipped with Satcom. The A-321’s aren’t a replacement and we still need the lift. They wouldn’t be spending the money and having training at max capacity if they were going to park the planes. Not to mention the 757s and 767s are all paid off and printing money.

FYI they are looking for used 767-300 as well

Goal to have by 2025

100 787s
75 777s ( A models 19 of them will be gone )

CPDLC would be nice too. Seeing as how much HI flying they're doing.

There is one B model (2001 build) that is already in the Cattle Car config and 3 more (also 2001 builds) that were slated for it pre-COVID.

Also of note there are currently 9 of the PW powered 777s in China for Maintenance, so UA is definitely counting on those coming back sooner rather than later
