Default Daily Newark Meltdown

I’m a commuter, for now, and whether I’m a United passenger or flying a trip, Newark gates are NEVER available. Anywhere from 15-75 minutes to get a gate to park. This has happened at all times of the day, everyday, FOR WEEKS! And it isn’t weather related.

- When will this end?
- Who is getting fired?
- Does United think it’s customers are going to tolerate this?
- Fun fact: Not having a gate for 30+ mins isn’t because I pushed back 5 mins early…
- The nonsense about delayed engine start and minimum APU use to save money is null considering how much fuel we burn and extra pay the company outlays for crew pay everyday doing this.

Guessing this is just the tip of the iceberg, summer travel will exacerbate all of it. UFB.

Did you read Fabian's recent email? It explains the EWR sutuation pretty well and has some suggestions on things we can do to help get out on time.

EWR has been a goat rope for as long as I’ve been here. Always worse during the peak summer season. Trust me, you can’t change it. 10 pounds of excrement in a 5 pound bag, and this is the result. What I find shocking is that these managers have the nerve to sound surprised 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️. Fly the contract, follow SOP and don’t sweat the details that are beyond your control.

not to mention…getting OUT doesn’t seem to be the issue. It’s getting IN.

Do your job, follow the SOP, don’t do anyone else’s job for them, take a seat, or a step back, crack open an ice-cold aha, enjoy the chaos.

nothing you say or do will fix that dumpster fire so you may as well enjoy it.

Absolutely I did, it’s nice to see the Winning In Newark strategy — for widebodies… getting out is the standard 10-30 min delay for taxi, most of which is built into the schedule. Getting IN is the problem, that’s not accounted for and causes a heap of missed connections, problems for FAs, and pilots apologizing again and again.

Not at United.

I take the view that when United Airlines does well, WE do well. When we have record revenue, hopefully we will get a decent contract. When we have decent profits, we get a nice bonus in profit sharing. When our customers are happy, and want to fly on our planes and pay our salaries, that’s good for all of us.

Conversely, when the airline fails, all of us suffer. I don’t understand the attitude of “F it, not my job, let this ***** crash and burn because it isn’t my problem”. It is our problem, like it or not to the customer we are the leadership face of United.

It boggles my mind that Newark can fail so badly everyday during every summer season and absolutely nothing has changed? Who is ok with that? Pilots are born and bred to solve problems, this isn’t impossible to figure out. Not to mention that fixing Newark would save the company many more millions of $ then probably any other cost cutting measure within our control.
