does military experience (non-pilot) help at all? I imagine there are a lot of other vets who apply apply all the time

I just got a CJO with less than 1,800TT out of which 326 is rotary time. I do have 800+ TPIC on turboprop and jet time. Military aviator, so that makes a difference as far as I know.

if the question is more accurately; will non-pilot military experience reduce the pilot PIC requirements for a job at United? The answer is; No. However Veteran status is considered.

Said another way, flight time will get your application into the review stack and get you the invitation to start the process.

United has dropped the requirement of a certain score on the Hogan as a prerequisite to be invited to interview. Dropped total hours to 2350, no TPIC and no four year degree required.

CEO says he wants to hire 8000 pilots in next 5 years. The pilot pool is really drying up.

Ran into a 756 evaluator. Says he currently can’t give an ATP only a type rating - unlike Regional Evaluators. He recently talked to a FAA inspector he knows from TK. Inspector says United is applying to give initial ATP’s for new hires like Regionals do now.

So at some time in the future I expect we will be hiring 1500 CFI’s directly to mainline like Spirit is looking to do now.

Yeah ALPA says there’s no pilot shortage, right!

Do you have a military background? I was referring to pure civilian. Either way the mins can’t go much lower. There isn’t many eligible pilots left to hire.
