There’s ALWAYS been a separate boundary/parameter between mil/civ.
Its more about applicant peer set than a flat out/across the board experience level and flight time.
There was a time where standard single seat/tactical jet average time for a NH was 15-1800. Then there was even dark decade. Albeit, that funny little hiring of summer help thingy in 2007-2208.
When hiring started/picked up in 2013-2104, that number was about 1.5 that number. With the multiple platforms under their belt, multiple IP quals, all sorts of other boxes checked.
It’s all just “a sign of the times”…
I know, I know…….
…….SOMEONE is chime in with “well, I got hired in 2013-2104 with less than 2000 mil TT!!!”
Well, good for YOU!!! That was an outlier, just as back in 2013-2014, etc the low time civ RJ pilot with no PIC.

Their narrative is there is not a shortage of pilots; they’re saying they need more compensation to be attracted/retained. They're correct in their assessment there I’d say.

United has dropped the requirement of a certain score on the Hogan as a prerequisite to be invited to interview. Dropped total hours to 2350, no TPIC and no four year degree required.
CEO says he wants to hire 8000 pilots in next 5 years. The pilot pool is really drying up.
Ran into a 756 evaluator. Says he currently can’t give an ATP only a type rating - unlike Regional Evaluators. He recently talked to a FAA inspector he knows from TK. Inspector says United is applying to give initial ATP’s for new hires like Regionals do now.
So at some time in the future I expect we will be hiring 1500 CFI’s directly to mainline like Spirit is looking to do now.
Yeah ALPA says there’s no pilot shortage, right!

Absolutely. I had applied for years and never heard a peep. I was surprised when I finally got the email. Looks like even old farts can be trained successfully. Nevertheless, happy to be here.
