I’m for anything that makes this job:

Easier to live wherever you want
Sit in whatever seat you want
Fly whatever plane you want
Fly whatever day you want
Fly the line as awarded

The company wants the opposite.

I’m having a cow…so what? It’s a choice to bid reserve, it’s a choice to commute, it’s a choice to get a vax…uh…wait scratch that last one.

I’m all for some sort of positive space commuting, but it should be something for everyone. Someone mentioned miles, or keep it simple and give everyone “X” amount of positive space passes per year. Using negotiating capital for commuters alone is unfair. And yes, I’ve commuted and I know it sucks.

Living in base is a choice.

Okay, I'm poking here, even though it seriously is.

The suggestion above actually seems fair enough. Or, give positive space to commuters and make all open time pickups pay premium, and pilots in-base should be pretty happy, too.

Anxiously awaiting Tumi 5.1 ... and lineholder FSB.

We've already got lineholder FSB. Every time you pass through a hub with more than an of hour of sit time, you are FSB. That overnight to FLL? Sorry, you just got reassigned to a DTW overnight.

"The biggest news for an investor perspective is cost convergence in the industry means that what is different now is all the low cost carriers are going to have come up to these much higher pay rates," Kirby said. "This is going to wind up like oil prices -- it's going to be a pass through."

Kirby said demand is still strong for airplane tickets, which he noted are cheaper today than over the last 15 years.

"Prices are still in historical terms 40-50% lower in real terms," Kirby said. "They are going to go up but it's still going to be the best value of your travel," he said, comparing flights to hikes in hotels, rental cars and theme park tickets.

That's what I've been saying. Charge the customers more. I occasionally hear a passenger complain about 'high ticket prices'. Screw 'em - they don't care that we haven't seen pay raises for years; we've been subsidizing those lower air fares. Covid airfares are over.

My comments from reading this entire thread:
No matter how good the contract, there will be some item for everyone to be unhappy.
My personal heartburn is making the new contract even more complicated with a bunch of add pays. I'd love a contract that doesn't require a lawyer to interpret it.

I see some rumors here about what's in the next offering. I'll wait to read it before I believe any rumors.
We'll have a new contract soon enough.

Then I will correct my statement. The person I mention is a Job Share. As such, he is PS when traveling to/for work. My understanding he has also done Seat fill. So, you are correct. An instructor is not given PS to other bases to perform their duties as instructors at TK. My bad for not stating ‘job share’

I'll second this all day long.

Yup and commuters go insane when the subject of local COLA’s (which 99.9% of large corporations use) is brought up for high coast bases.

COLAs should exist. I commute to a high COL cesspool, so I’m all for it.

maybe that’s the answer . Offer folks the choice of 4 positive space tickets per month or $20 / hour override - or something along those lines.

As a mid continent based pilot you’re right I’d fight against it. You already get higher pay because you’re able to hold a much higher position than you could in any mid continent base. As a matter of fact if we had COLA and PS commuting watch how senior those bases go. I would be 50% in SFO as a WB CA or a bottom reserve in a mid continent. There’s the COLA right there. The people who bid the coastal bases already have it built in.
