Default LEC/MEC meeting scheduling

Is there any particular reason we don’t hear about the meetings until they’re like a week away (in the case of this upcoming MEC meeting) or after bidding has closed for the local stuff?

I’ve managed to make a single LEC meeting because I happened to have that day off- all the others I’ve been working. Hard to “just get involved” when I can’t even attempt to bid the days off. Same with this upcoming MEC meeting. Would be nice to have some kind of idea who was running to replace MH and who I could at least attempt to persuade my reps to vote for.

Am I just missing some portal or newsletter or something?

Honestly, the LEC reps (when they are not being recalled en masse) are served better when participation is low. Late meeting notifications, lack of zoom (or similar formats) are just a way to make it so it’s the same few people High fiving, punching or yelling at each other.

Occasionally there might have been a notice more than a month out, but i certainly can’t find one on alpa’s site.

SFO Council 34 meetings are usually announced about a month and a half out, with several reminders before the meeting.

MEC Meeting next week is a special meeting meaning short notice.

The MEC quarterly meetings are scheduled a year out.

MEC quarterly meetings are set a year in advance. January, April, July, and October.

Not sure about your LEC but mine sends out a “Save the date” prior to PBS bidding for the next month.

I didn’t get a save the date from mine but it looks like they do put the info in the MEC master calendar so I’ll just keep an eye out in the future. I just checked my old emails and all the emailed reminders were post bidding.

Makes sense with the MEC meetings, I just think it’s a little frustrating that we get blindsided with “hey by the way we’re going to pick the person who is going to steer us through contract negotiations in a week, you won’t have any idea who is running or be able to voice any opinions about it”.

I need to read up and try to get a resolution in for the next meeting to explore the option of Zoom for those that can’t attend in person, recording of meetings and more transparency on the MEC level. I think it was really great that Delta released their AIP info so membership could give their reps guidance on whether or not to send it out for a vote.

I’ve always received lots of notice before Council 11 holds their meetings.

My experience with C5 is the same as OP’s. I hope a priority of our new reps will be Zoom-enabled meetings and enough notice to bid around them.
