There's some info available via search, but it's a big fragmented and possibly out of date (from what I've seen at least).
Anyone on here commute from the BOS area to EWR (or any other United base)? Is it a fairly easy commute, or very competitive? Looks like there are some options aside from just UAL as well.
Long story short, I'm from New England and the fam and I have moved back...no desire to move unless something life-changing forced us. I'm facing a long commute at my current job, and I'm still enough of a new hire to where changing jobs wouldn't be a huge loss. I considered AA, of course, but 737 at a small base (perhaps that's the bigger issue) seems very limiting for a 30+ year career going forward.
My thought is that a 1+10ish flight (or a 4ish hour drive if I really had to) to fly out of a relatively junior base may be manageable in terms of commutes (obviously driving to work is ideal). I'd like to hear better, though, from those who know. And I appreciate your time.
One last thing -- anything you wish you knew (contract etc) about UAL before deciding to start / stay? I've found that the devil is indeed in the details...
Thanks again.

I did this commute for 4 years, there are easily dozens of United folks who do it weekly. When it’s good, it’s the easiest in the world. Even FedEx has a non stop option late night. When it’s bad though, it completely falls apart in a hurry as they cancel half the flights. Overall though it’s very feasible. I’d also drive it if I had a trip getting done Xmas eve or similar to guarantee I’d get home.
Thoughts though- if you’re commuting anyway, why not Delta? They’ve had talks of a Boston base and you’d likely be going to New York anyway which is the same thing as a EWR commute. You’d then have at least a chance of ending up in Boston vs UA. Other thought Is Jetblue. It’s not a legacy, but you’d be driving to work every day and making relatively comparable compensation. Not sure if you’ve ever NOT commuted, but there is a ton of value in simply driving to work. Enough value that for many it trumps a wide body or (sore subject) profit sharing.

It’s can get rough if you try to do same day. A lot of NH residents doing Europe trips means tighter commute late morning going to work and afternoon coming back. If you have to come in night before best take something leaving before 6 pm cause EWR delays make it painful. Junior NB trips usually have early starts so not end of world.
Some of us were unlucky to live through this commute when it was all Colgan and the Q400. That was PAIN…

I have considered B6 as well. I just don't know at this point...
Regarding BOS to EWR, thanks for the responses everyone.

I’m EWR based and visit my parents in NH for a few months every summer. Commute is relatively easy. Not sure where you are but I’ve used Boston, Manchester, and Portland, all are great options. C&J bus lines has a commuter rate from their stop in Portsmouth too, which makes it nice with free parking and a chill ride to Logan.

United is also actively considering a Boston base, at the pace its taking delta to open that base I wouldn't be surprised if United goes first.

Not a BOS commuter but fly with a lot. Another option especially on weather days is Amtrak. Not sure the cost and if they do this anymore. But if in uniform sometimes conductor wouldn’t (supposedly) take your ticket. With Air Tran right at EWR it’s easy to get from airport to Newark - or NY Penn Station (not sure of cost) on NJ Transit or picked up directly at EWR by Amtrak. Probably faster than flying l on a weather day.
