And no one even cares about that since it has no operational impact. There are still pages and pages of criteria based pickups in open time. New hires are bidding NB CA in numbers to sustain our training footprint and classes are still running at record numbers. Why would the company want to negotiate for anything that is above cost neutral? Everything is humming along just fine.

Soon we will have captains making balloon animals for the kid in the boarding area.

The clown suit in our industry has multiple uses.

Been angry, treated my passengers like cattle and probably lost a few years off my life for it (through blood pressure, overnight beers, etc). I’ll continue to take care of my passengers to the best of my abilities. If the NC can’t use the leverage we have to get us a good contract, then god help us.

As far as extending, answering my phone, soft starts or “doing favors,” that’s a different matter.

Since when is single engine during a long taxi “going above and beyond”?

We can advocate for an industry leading contract without being needlessly wasteful.

I sincerely hope you’re joking. First year FOs at the regionals are making more than first year mainline FOs…

Yes, some; & yes, for now. Because it’s illegal to organize any such “drawdown”, it doesn’t turn off like a light switch. But it’s obtuse to assume that what’s happening today is necessarily what will be happening tomorrow, in a week; 2 months from now.Every time BQ’s claims of wanting a “truly industry leading contract” are offset by an itemized communication from the union of all the industry average policies the company is refusing; every time SK claims DAL is the new standard & doesn’t follow through, the enthusiasm level drops. On their own timelines & in their own way, 15,000 people care a little less; so they do a little less. It takes time, but the longer it goes on, the worse it gets.

Up until TUMI 1, this company was selling a lot of pilots on doing extras. It was catching on. That was a narrow window of opportunity where a great contract would have made them rockstars. Imagine if we had gotten DAL’s contract before DAL did. Guys would have been over the moon. The whole “taking pride in the brand” movement would have exploded overnight.

The irony is, today, that same contract would move the needle far less. By the summer, maybe not at all. The longer they drag this on, they’ll just end up spending the same money for a rapidly diminishing reward. Whether they believe it or not, they are losing to the clock.

yet….it still feels as though WE are the ones losing.
