4. APC will go on for endless pages saying that it isn’t enough.

At the end of the day, United will provide a great career, as will other airlines. Contract cycles, management teams, and expansion/contraction cycles come and go. Just pick a lane and enjoy the ride.
This is DEFINITELY the information I'm trying to keep in mind and the thought process I'm trying to maintain.

I got a CJO with UA, trying to figure out if the move is worth. UA QOL on narrow body and money does not look better than SWA from what I have read on UA CBA.
credit or TFP…those are different. SWA is generally more efficient at low seniority even. If pay is your motivator though you can upgrade at UA much earlier than SWA

Yes, at the moment it does as do all NB CA positions in all bases. That could change tomorrow, though. For years, it was senior, relative to coastal bases, but with the hiring bender we’ve been on for two years anything that was typical has changed substantially.

First fork in the road I've come to in my career where I'm unsure I'm making the right choice.
Look man look. We are in contract negotiations. Negativity will always come out during contact negotiations. This goes for every airline out there. So try not to read too much into it. There good things and there are bad things.

My advice, pick the airline that checks your QOL boxes… If you live in a United base, it’s a no brained. Same goes for a Southwest base. If you live in both bases, then you need to decide which airline fits what you want to do. United offers variety of different types of flying that you will not have with Southwest. Southwest has more efficient flying.

At the end of the day, both are great opportunities.

Very good perspective.

Another point of perspective. As much as the QOL might be worse at United than SWA, it's still much better than it was 10-20 years ago following 9/11.

Both companies are great companies to work for. You will work harder and get more days off all things being equal at SWA.
You will get less days off and work more days for the same $$ at United, but layovers will most likely be more favorable at UAL.

If you get senior enough to bid a WB schedule, those are really nice in that you will have the productivity of a LCC airline, but actually only have to fly 3-4 trips a month. Caveat: there is no guarantee you ever will be able to hold a WB CA schedule that will have the QOL you need nor ever guarantee you are able to even bid WB CA. However, UAL is probably the best option for that opportunity at this point in time, apart from cargo operations like Atlas.

That's how inefficient and poor our scheduling practices are here. Which also means we have such a high hurdle to leap over, we most likely won't see a contract for a long time.
Let's bring the drama down a tad, shall we? Definite "a long time"? 4 months? 6 months? 8 months? 12 months? Now put that in the context of a 35+ year career. It's overdue, but SWA pilots seem pretty ****ed about their contract being overdue too.

If you're the type that believes the grass is greener on the other side of the fence you're going to be excited when you have an ILC for a few months, then be super miserable for the next 4 years when brand X outbids you. Picking a company based off of one contract or one CEO when you're going to see half a dozen of each doesn't seem the best strategy IMO, but your viewpoint may be different.

United. Still in first year. Worked 12 days this month. Credited over 120 hrs. Cool, just wish it weren’t on 1st year pay.

it’s a polarizing place. It has great flying and future opportunities. It has a scheduling system that is Machiavellian in its brutality. (Work rules)

Every place will have something you like or don’t like.

Let me guess...live in Denver and half your trips bought by training or instructors?
Or live in EWR or SFO and the same deal, trips bought by training?
