- Quick seniority progression on the NB (Southwest also offers this) [I'm gonna call BS here. it's not at all quick progression at SWA DEN compared to UAL]
- Option of 757 flying out Denver (Southwest doesn’t have)
- Eventual option of 787 flying down the road (Southwest doesn’t have)
-Upgrade to NB Captain in base (Southwest offers this as well) [except not in 1-3 years, it's in 8+ years in denver, again not comparable]
- Option to work the training center to get more nights/days at home (Southwest doesn’t offer this in Denver)

Thos are the facts.

some adjustments

I've never seen that here. The lack of an ability to drop and swap is only half true. It is difficult to straight drop. I can swap quite a bit, especially for bad/worse days. I've only straight dropped a trip once. A few other times another pilot took it off my schedule.
That’s pretty good! Do you mind sharing what is your domicile and how long did it take you to get that good sked?
im in similar situation. I currently got class date at United and currently in southwest less than 6 month here.
im hesitant to make the move still although I got that far in the process with UA hiring process.
my priority is days off basically QOL. Please share your thoughts l
anyone made the move from SW to UA and regretted here? And why?

More than 15 days off typically happens above 50% seniority in your base/equipment/seat. If you hit the easy button coming from SWA and bid the 737 the most junior base is IAH. With 14 months on property I would be 45% there. Instead, I'm about 55% at EWR. I would be about 70% everywhere else.

That being said, days off isn't exactly linked to seniority. You could be 30% but gave PBS so many avoid commands that it choked on your bid and gave you 13 days off and 85 hours of work. You can also be 60% but made things easy on the computer with just a "I don't want to work" command and you get 17 days off with 75 hours.

You can spend your career on the 737 at either company. One thing that United offers that Southwest doesn’t is WB flying. If that is something that interest you, and if you’re able to handle the time zone changes and deal with red eyes, it is the easiest gig in the industry. Good money and lots of time off.

For a 737 perspective, I’m about 40% and average 15 days off per month. I could do better than that if I wanted, but I put some pretty steep limitations into PBS for commuting, no red eyes, and avoid trips with more than 3 legs per day. My trips aren’t great (20-21 hr 4 days), but they’re commutable on both ends and easy. Seniority is the key. Senior pilots have lots of options and can bid accordingly, junior pilots take what is left. That usually means higher time lines and fewer days off. The good news is that if this hiring continues, people will move up quickly and can then decided if they want to trade high relative seniority in their current seat to bid other equipment or upgrade. On the other hand, if the music stops, being stuck with low seniority with our current contract wouldn’t be much fun.

First fork in the road I've come to in my career where I'm unsure I'm making the right choice.
I'm in the same, or at least similar boat. Pushed my class date back to October due to family issues (new baby). Current employer is great and understanding, and has made a significant offer that is hard to walk away from. pt91, great equipment, 6-10 days flying per month, and weekends off. Fortune 150 company. I've dreamed of flying for United for my entire adult life, and now that I have the opportunity, I'm not sure it's the best choice anymore. Now if I lived in base, that would be different.

Good luck with your decision.

it’s a good problem to have. I’m leaving another 121 legacy for UAL even though I’m pretty happy here; and I consider myself fortunate in spite of some certain headwinds with the jump. At the end of the day a good career is the one you decide to do

it’s a great company….not having a contract is extremely temporary.

yes our reserve blows…..better if you live in base other than that? It’s all good typical contract BS

What is your retirement package?

I was part 91 with a good gig. It just could not compete in the long game.

Standard corporate America 401k match... i give 6% they match 4% or something like that. On top of base pay, there is a 20-30% annual bonus. But no guarantee that it comes every year. That being said, I've gotten in every year except one, which was a terrible year economically speaking.

New contract and improvements really make a compelling case to go. I have one more shot. I am likely taking it.

As a SWA guy, I constantly hear how SWA is, despite our flaws, superior to the OAL's like UA. If so many guys are saying it, there has to be some truth to it, right?

Also, I understand there are a lot of caveats, but in a general sense, how much time is it taking these days to upgrade to NB and then, WB captain? Are many guys hanging out for a while as NB/WB FO?

Finally, are you guys in mediation yet? If not, why not?

New NB captain here at 90% in base.

I am able to waive rights, get a line, and am awarded high 80's credit with 15 days off.

I am not really able to drop anything, but able to trade out of the crappy trips awarded in to decent trips.
