Default True Industry Leading Contract Guaranteed

It’s time for ALPA to use new tactics and use the tools that are now available to us. 3,000 uniformed pilots picketing across the country feels good, but unfortunately doesn’t create real leverage.

There is one simple thing ALPA could do that is guaranteed to get serious attention, create actual leverage, and generate a ILC in record time.

Here it is: put together a handful of very well-done 10 second adds communicating our message. 1) we sacrificed for the company during Covid 2) company promised certain things in return and is now trying to take bake what they promised 3) we’ve been waiting for an updated contract for 4 years 4) we are operating under the same outdated work rules for 20 years 5) Yada yada yada. Once these ads are developed, distribute them to every phone that goes into a United hub using geofencing, and put it on every social media site that is opened on any device in a United hub.

This is guaranteed to get results.

If anything, this is worth a try. Did you send it to your reps? Any replies from them about it?

not to dissuade you, anything legal is worth a shot. But the typical airline passenger does not care about our work rules. They for the most part think we work very little and are overpaid for the work we do. This is why I think informational picketing or ads are nearly useless at convincing management they need to get a deal done. What does convince them is when flights are delayed or cancelled due to crew staffing.

anyway, I’m rooting for you guys!

it doesn’t matter what the passengers care about; it matters what the company cares about. There is a reason the company moved the time of their investor meeting at the last moment to avoid the ALPA pop up picket. They care, and this would light a fire — guaranteed.

Nothing's guaranteed but I like this. Essentially you’re using technology to create a round-the-clock informational picket. I’d add that you could build your add around explaining our lanyards. (E.g., “Why are we wearing these orange lanyards? [see points 1-5 above]”) Getting the average passenger to recognize & identify the lanyard would be hugely effective, IMO.

Totally agree. I had lots of friends/acquaintances ask me about our specific issues after seeing the one liner signs at informational pickets, it would be great to have a unified, plain English explanation displayed to people and something I’d be thrilled to see my dues money going towards.
