Don't believe 777/787 have been assigned in training for quite some time. Not positive, but SFO 777 may be a pretty short wait. EWR just did a 777 displacement, so that and the 787 dried up a bit on the east coast. In between is historically more senior. Not sure about IAD.

Once in, people don't leave. 23 off this month and again next month. What do the 787 and crack have in common..?

There will be no decline in hiring. If anything, top level hiring plans accounted for LCC failures as our CEO commented pretty nonchalantly on the inevitable fate of both Spirit and jetBlue. I have flown with several new hires from both companies and although our work rules and QOL may lack in some fashion or another, they were proud to wear the uniform with no disgruntled nature or frustration(s) exhibited. The time to leave was months ago, but you will be able to pick up where you left off in a year’s time if you stay on the narrowbody fleet, and perhaps in 3 years time you’ll see the wage and QOL youre accustomed to manifest on the 756. For the time being a true widebody spot on the 777/787 will take some years to establish landing currency and status as a lineholder. Those seats in all bases have gone senior and will most likely stay that way. Good luck, I have a feeling pilot hiring is expecting you and your friends. I say welcome.

 

Most airlines have a seatlock for 1 year after new hire.

 

You’re only seat locked from bidding down or laterally. You can always bid up. NBFO-756-WB-NBCA-WBCA. You can go up to any rung of that ladder, just not down,

 

You won’t get it on your first day but I have seen a couple of guys going through 787 training who have flown no hours in United or maybe 150 hours. That means they got the WB award shortly after starting at United.

 

Not anymore. That may have been true months ago (i.e. ancient history). WB is no longer junior, even 777 or 787 SFO. Just take a look at the latest vacancy snapshot.

 

Someone in new hire gets junior manned into 73 Captain, can they move “up” to 78/777 fo or is that not considered moving up the rung of the ladder?

No. That would not be in the order that I said--by WB, I was referring to WBFO.

Here is the exact order from our CBA (we obviously don't have all of these aircraft):

1) EMB FO, CRJ 900 FO
2) 320 FO, 737 FO, 220 FO, CRJ 900 CA
3) 756 FO, EMB CA
4) 777 FO, 787 FO, 330 FO, 350 FO
5) 320 CA, 737 CA, 220 CA
6) 756 CA, 380 FO
7) 777 CA, 787 CA, 330 CA, 350 CA
8) 380 CA

As a simplification, 2 years to move down or laterally on the ladder. Maybe someone else who really likes to type can expand on the volumes of legalize on our freezes.

I think with your experience you'll get an invite pretty quickly. If you take the bus training will be a breeze.
Hiring about 50 ish a week. According to some The wave may have crested. However I think your bankruptcy fears are kind of no joke legitimate.
