United Airlines Growth Halted By The FAA

I came from a construction background, so am used to the ups and downs. Aviation scares me a bit more since it’s more unpredictable. When I get furloughed (probably soon), or lose my medical, I can work in the school district doing maintenance work. I might have to sell my house and downsize but will still be able to pay my bills otherwise.

I guess I’ll put this here. Initial NTSB from IAH.
74 knots at 1000’ remaining, 39 knots as he started the right turn.

I noticed there are actually no CA slots in the 4/9 class drop. But I have no clue how those drops correspond with vacancy bids...

A NH CA today won't make it online for the summer 2025. They can force NH CA slots in the fall of this year and still have them online by summer of 2026 if they need it.

Reason I ask is that in recent months, up to and including this week, there have been 737CA slots available for NH's to bid. The 4/9 class is the first class not to have those slots, to the best of my knowledge. All I really care about is living in base, and up until this week there were SFO 737CA slots available. So I was hoping to snag one of those, since I believe that gives you the ability to be in that base as an FO until it's time for upgrade training.
There have been no SFO 737FO slots available in any class drop that I've seen over the past few months. As of next week, the SFO 737CA slots don't exist, and neither do SFO 737FO slots. So just trying to gauge the approximate time to be based in SFO on the 737, regardless of which seat

I remember being forced into LAX 737 FO as a new-hire. Several of us from our class. I can't believe the company doesn't just let us pick from any base/eqpt/seat we want at indoc!

Just out of curiosity, how do the drops available to each NH class correspond to the vacancy bids? I understand that unfilled slots in each vacancy bid will be offered to NH classes. So if a vacancy bid comes out today (which I believe it did?), then when would the unfilled slots be determined and offered to NH classes?

Step one-
The company issues a vacancy bid available for all pilots to bid on (contractual freeze restrictions vary) and any bid that goes "unfilled" can be utilized for an assignment in a new hire class. If that unfilled assignment is not given out within 92 days of the posting of the vacancy award, then the unfilled vacancy expires and cannot be used. Vacancy bids have been coming out monthly to keep the movement going for those that are here already and keep the number of unfilled vacancies plentiful for new hire classes.
Step two-
Before each new hire class starts, Manpower Planning decides which of the unfilled vacancies they are going to use in that class. This is based on the greatest need coupled with the training capacity for each fleet.
So, basically you can tell by looking at recent vacancy bids what the company may and may not give out in a New Hire class, but it is almost impossible to tell specifically what they will give out in a class. With the movement right now and the frequency and size of vacancy bids they always seem to be staying ahead of what they actually need in the unfilled assignment world, so that way they can shift a little in whichever direction they need to as class dates come up.
With the impending 2 month break in classes it will be a little easier to determine what the likely assignments will be when classes resume, but even with that you still won't be able to say for sure.
As far as getting to SFO goes, you will likely be able to get it in you New Hire assignment, but if not you will be there extremeley quickly. Once on the property you are eligible to bid on the vacancy bids that are posted (freeeze permitting). SFO 737 CAP and FO went unfilled on the last vacancy, so anybody that wanted either of those got it on that bid. The junior SFO A320 FO went to somebody still in New Hire class that had been given IAH 320 as a New Hire assignment like a month before. SFO 756 FO same story as A320

What is available to be given out as a new hire assignment is governed by the contract and then decided upon by Manpower Planning
