Default Empty Lines, etc. just announced for May

Is this bad news or just a small bump in the road? Silver lining - junior pilots won't get beat up this summer? Or are they going to cut so much that junior pilots definitely get beat up this summer?

You won’t know until the line credit ranges are published, taking into account people who have volunteered for the offered programs.

Doesn’t sound like good news to me. Probably not good if you’re at the bottom of the list. I don’t think furloughs will happen. But those at the bottom may be there awhile. I’m still surprised UA hasn’t stopped hiring immediately.

People need to calm down. Things are slowing due to Boeing being Boeing and not lack of damand.

AA offers blank lines pretty frequently. If you're talking about the same thing, I wouldn't be overly concerned. They can't staff the airline perfectly every single month. It ebbs and flows.

You should take a look at the details on the flt ops page. There are not many being offered and only on specific fleets.

Not a big deal. Company attempting to alleviate surplus of pilots due to Boeing’s continued failures.
Very few Empty Lines being offered. I was going to bid for one, but not offered in my seat.
Don’t think it’s necessarily a silver lining for junior FOs though. Not likely much of a change for those that don’t get an Empty Line. You’ll see it when the LPAs for May are published early next month.
Few more COLAs being offered than empty lines, but not many overall.

United doesn’t hire for next months staffing they hire for next Julys staffing.

we stopped hiring for Summer 2024 in January. We are now hiring for summer 2025. Based on Boeings delivery schedule for Summer 2025 will drive how many we hire until Jan of 2025. Then we will hire for 2026.

I wouldn't worry about it. UAL attempting to reduce costs by getting pilots to not do the regular bidding process. The chances of getting flying from open time is not good. So, bid an empty line, don't get paid, or get reserve guarantee for not flying? I'd avoid empty lines for now.
