Thats probably some of the dead weight the company wants to cut. You can’t blame them.

Yes you can, the whole point of reserves is to ensure the flight schedule operates smoothly. Low utilization of reserves except in IROPs should be the goal of the company, not to staff the reserve so low that they're all being used regularly then the wheels come completely off during IROPs. Thats the SWA playbook.

He showed me the grid for his BES and the company had more than enough reserve pilots. Looks like we have a surplus of pilots in certain fleets.

I don’t believe the sky is falling, don’t mistake what I said for me being doom and gloom. Having said that, we need less pilots than we currently have scheduled to come on board, and have already implemented the two month hiring pause. I’m simply saying that I wouldn’t be surprised if they decide to stop quicker than May. Most certainly won’t be surprised if the pause continues past June!

I've heard the suspicion that the stop was timed to pressure on Boeing for additional concessions (and AA did the same thing) re: the aircraft delivery situation. A pause starting in June or July would have made more sense for summer flying. Everyone except the bean counters is going to be wishing that they had an extra 200+NB pilots in the domestic system come July and August.

Maybe for Widebody line, not for Narrowbody lines. Pretty rare on that end and I have never seen it for my bid-status and base, both sides.

One of the VPs came in to speak with us last week and he mentioned that the pause was mainly due to lack of deliveries. The was to analyze where we would flow NHs (737 or 320) depending on Boeing or Airbus. Albeit, this was before the CHEP was announced, but it seems like that disruption won’t last long neither
