The # of retirements listed on the min-max bulletin are the total number between the opening of the bid (today) and 3/2/2025 which is the effective date. That number is NOT what is being replaced on this bid. Someone retiring in October also was being counted on the June, July and August vacancies as well as this one. Those # retirements are triple or quadruple counted. I just counted the # of retirements on each min-max since Jan 2024 and its showing 1,170 retirements total. That's just 10 months of vacancy bids. Clearly we don't have that many retirements over the last 12 months.

We only have 400 retirements in the next 12 months, so 60 WB Captains on a single bid is far more in a month than we would need to staff the airline.

This bid was expected and told it would happen at the standards meeting last month because we are finally starting to get new 787 deliveries (2 UAL 787s are completed at CHS waiting for flight tests prior to delivery). It was also announced that SFO, LAX and ORD would be getting the new planes. Expect to see 787 CA bids every month as we need to not only replace retirements but also staff the new deliveries.
Explain it like I am a slow 5 yr old? Are we buying pappy or turkey hill? Sarcasm

I honestly didn’t, I thought “r” was a reference to something, mostly because you spelled out every other word in your post in their entirety.

Yes, they will backfill the NB CA positions. Although it’s been a couple months since we’ve had a NB CA vacancy, These backfills will go more senior than we have typically had in the past

Instead of to the 8 Ball you may have to be 3rd from the bottom of your new hire class to hold NB Capt.

It's been going a little more senior more recently. But yeah, still not hard to get. I don't think we've had forced NB CA since last year.

ehh, I wish. Seems like those forced NH CA vacancies went to lower time recently hired RJ F/Os. Now that a bunch of higher time ULCC CAs are starting classes they all went away. Timing is everything 😭. I guess the silver lining is it will probably take me a year or two to figure out the 737 anyway.

Theres nothing to really figure out, it's too old of a design to have anything complicated or confusing.

With all of the NB FO positions, they seem confident hiring will continue. A little light vs some other quiet hiring depts
