Yeah, seems like everything's gotten more senior pretty quickly. I'm around 70% system seniority with 5k behind me on the list, and I couldn't hold any CA position in any base on this bid. Historically that's probably not uncommon, but it's a far cry from a year ago when we had hundreds of unfilled CA vacancies.

Agreed. There were a few hundred (?) very lucky new hires who were able to get CA slots right off probation, but the last few bids have seen the most junior upgrade awards go to people in the 10-11K range. The days of the quick upgrades appear to be over, for the time being. My uneducated guess is that the massive changes in reserve rules (18 hour callout) has made life as a junior reserve CA much more reasonable, especially for commuters.
Once deliveries were slowed due to the FAA audit and hiring was paused over the summer and it seemed like the music was at least slowing down, the limited NB CA vacancies quickly went much more senior.
Now that Boeing is on strike, it looks like movement will be slower than it had been, but more in line with historical norms.

I'd attribute it to fewer captains needed and FOMO for those who had been holding off on upgrading. Many pilots seemed content where they were knowing they could upgrade whenever they wanted which had been the case over last few years.

There are folks who are senior to me that can’t into my BES either.
They have to commute to a different base vs being able to drive to work because they held out…

I feel bad for the junior guys who did get the upgrade. Guess who is working Christmas and Thanksgiving for the next 10 years?

On the plus side the company gave away negotiating capital getting new hire captain provisions drafted in upa23 only to never actually need to exercise it (beside a fluke class or two, so far),
and we initially thought it was our giveaway to them
