United OO Pathway - Yay or Nay

A couple of brief and relatively minor corrections. UPS is hiring, but in relatively small numbers. The 1,000 MTPIC never went away everywhere. It primarily disappeared at companies that had to hire thousands of pilots per year (legacies).
In my opinion, SkyWest’s “deal” is not wonderful, but may not have much practical negative impact on career progression. Multi-Turbine PIC time is rapidly returning to its place of primacy in the hiring process. Expect the bachelor degree requirement to follow shortly. In other words, read up on what was competitive in 2016 and you will have a good idea of what you will need to be competitive.

Seriously? Can’t be that many out there with those times that aren’t staying put at their shop. Don’t see that being sustainable even if hiring projections have slowed.

Agreed. The people with those quals are either already at their carrier of choice, or are regional lifers with zero intent to leave. I think what we're seeing is a return to the situation that existed right before covid, where you needed 1000 TPIC to be competitive, but you didn't need to have space shuttle time in your logbook...

And I can't say that's a bad thing. I recently flew with one of our newbie wonder CAs who came to UAL after only two years as a regional FO, and upgraded at UAL after a year. This individual was just off upgrade OE. Let's just say that while this person's flying abilities seemed just fine, the other stuff -- ADM, big-picture thinking, and quite honestly, emotional maturity -- were sadly not in evidence.
Of course, I've flown with other really junior and really young CAs who have been really solid, but this particular trip was quite painful to experience. Hopefully the return to more traditional hiring standards will ensure that fewer of these people slip through the cracks.

Unlike the guy VVVVVVVV, who DID pick up on it.

So, the hiring minimums are climbing back into the 500-1000+ TPIC requirement range again for United and the rest of the majors to my knowledge. And hiring this year is supposed to still be good but much softer than projected from what I’ve heard.
For those of us at OO, we are pretty much locked into the “Pathway Program” initially which requires us to get 1600 TPIC once in the program at a minimum and then flow to United within 4 months (no guarantees though). You interview for it like a traditional interview and then get accepted or rejected. We can deny the offer and then won’t be allowed to apply for 6 months to United for the traditional route.
Should we take the Pathway Program if offered or reject it and hope to be picked up sooner around the 500-1000TPIC mark? Or does anyone know if that would put you on some sort of United black list?
I know we don’t all have crystal balls but looking for some wisdom. Thanks!

My advice take any pathway or program that helps you get to your forever airline. Or not and keep hoping things get back to what they were during that time period. Good luck with that strategy.
