Another thing I never hear people talk about is the cost of Tricare Retired Reserve for those of us who will wind up with a Guard/Reserve retirement. Even ignoring deductibles, copays, etc. and just looking at the premiums alone, that cost is $1406 per month today assuming you're not solo (spouse, kids, whatever). For someone who's 35 today, if we assume that those premium costs rise at a mere 2% per year, you're looking at a cost of $2547 per month (a little over $30k per year) just in premiums when you're 65. If you live a decade or two or three beyond that, you're potentially looking at many hundreds of thousands of dollars in healthcare costs even before anything bad actually happens to you.
RHA funds go in tax-free, grow tax-free in a target date fund that actually yields a decent return over time, and are tax-free when used. The R&I folks consistently say that they've never heard a retiring pilot say "man, I wish I had less money in my RHA." Do with that info what you will.

This isn't a response to you, or your post, specifically.
As a 'top third' pilot ivoted in favor of the PRA. I voted against my personal financial interests because i wanted to be considerate of the needs of others.
I've consistently supported efforts to spread the wealth of our UPA more evenly towards the junior end of the list. I did this while gaining the benefits of the seniority i was willing to share more evenly.
Now it appears there's a "TAKE TAKE TAKE" mindset when I look down the list. I heard it in the UPA (non TUMI...everyone agrees that sucked) discussions, I hear it on the line, and I hear it regarding this LOA.
This TA benefits me and I'm frankly done sacrificing for pilots who probably don't even realize how ungrateful they sound.
Voted In Favor.

Is anyone surprised? Just at the absolute S-show over in the Delta forum about the age 67 thing again. Most of these senior guys only care about themselves, full stop.
See, I max the employee contribution so it doesn't really affect me too much. That being said, I can empathize with those who can't or don't for whatever reason, and this LOA is bad for them. So I voted NO because I think that this is a bad deal for quite a few of the group, and I don't mind waiting until it's beneficial to everyone here, not just the 59.5+.

It's funny you used the phrase "TAKE TAKE TAKE." In all of the diologue from those opposed to this LOA, where in the heck have you seen any "TAKE?" Those opposed to this LOA aren't asking to "TAKE" anything away. We currently don't have a cap. But you're the one that want's to give the company the easy ability to impose a PRAP cap. Step back and you'll realize that you're using a BS rationale in order to justify your vote. You're actually the one doing the taking. The no side doesn't want to "TAKE" anything away. We want this MBCBP to be implemented correctly. And to avoid having to pay for stuff in the next contract cycle that we already have.
My vote began as a NO until i read, watched, and listened to all of the info provided by the MEC and discussed on various SM sites.
Youre HOPING the IRS approves a better plan structure right? Do you know what will be approved? You casually throw out the phrase "implemented correctly" as if you get to choose what "correctly" entails. Of course you are cool with passing up the opportunity for 1-2 years of CBP contributions vs PRAP cash if you don't have that spill anyway...
FWIW, I'm not 59 or older. I'm not even 58 yet.
