Ok like 1A or 1B…….they certainly aren’t #3 are they?…..least significant part of my response. It’s not as if he past up United and chose Southwest.

I have more seniority, and I would quit tomorrow if my base closed and I had a CJO with another top 4 major airline that had a base in my hometown.

So yes, unless you are in the last 5 years of your career, I would take a CJO with United, American, or Southwest when they begin hiring again.

Having close friends with DL/UA/SWA and myself being at AA— I do believe Deltdah has the best soft pay in the industry. They nailed it and the entire seniority list benefits. At AA and UA more soft pay is a direct result of having better seniority.

Idk why someone living in Chicago with an offer to UA would chase the commute to Deltdah. Idk why we had a DL guy asking for a ride from DFW to LAX recently who later told us he received an AA CJO 2 months after being hired at DL, but still decided to commute?? Large ego maybe?

It's because of old guys like me who tell everyone to take the first offer because you never know when (or if) another CJO will show up. Things have changed a bit, albeit temporarily, IMO.

I agree with you 100%, you always take the first job offer, but they also received a CJO with a Big 3 airline that wouldn’t have required a commute.

You did not make a mistake; you are exactly where you need to be.

Hot take:

If this isn't a rage bait post I wouldn't leave Delta. Just move to DTW.

From the perspective of someone who lives on the West Coast they are both equally awful but DTW you could at least get some cheap housing?

Plus you wouldn't be moving to the bottom of a seniority list during uncertain times.

Thanks for any insight.
If this was a serious post then it sounds like you've made your decision. You knew what you were doing then. Legacy hiring has basically stopped so it's not like you're going to jump ship like a couple years ago.

Do you really love Chicago that much? Then happy commuting. Otherwise move to Michigan. What was the question again?

There is a guy that took a Southwest class date in early 2019 ahead of United because it was about 3 weeks earlier start date at Southwest and he was told to "take the earliest job offer". His only concern was how long it would take to make Captain in Denver because he lived there and didn't want to commute.

Obviously you can't predict the future, but he would hold a line as an Airbus or 737 CA in Denver. No idea how long it will take at Southwest. Anyone have an idea as to the junior Captain in Denver for Southwest or how long will it take?
