I spent a couple days in downtown Detroit a few months ago and actually enjoyed it. Seemed vibrant and active (granted it was during the playoffs) but a far cry from the horror stories you hear from the people scared of a homeless person.

Back in September 2023, I received CJOs from both Delta and United. I’m based in the Chicagoland area and ultimately chose Delta, primarily because their class date was two weeks earlier than United’s. I’m currently commuting to DTW, but I’m not interested in relocating. Lately, I’ve been wondering if should have chosen United instead?
Thanks for any insight.

Yes. Pick where you want to live and choose the major airline that’s based in or within driving distance of your chosen locality. Not commuting makes this job much easier and lucrative.

it is definitely a troll post. Just someone seeking validation or trying bait people into a ****ing match. If not he needs to stay at his airline during economic uncertainty and deal with the commute.

That drive would be one of the most painful drives in existence. The I-94 corridor between Detroit and Chicago is one of the most heavily traveled truck routes in the country and is a miserable drive most of the time, especially in NW Indiana

Delta guy here, I'd say he should have stayed at UAL. ORD-DTW is a relatively "easy" commute (if that's a real thing), but it's not driving to work. I don't care what anyone says, any commute is not walking off the plane to my car and driving home. It's not sitting short call from your couch or the golf course. I was at AAL and would have had the opposite commute as the OP. I added up the amount of extra time I would spend away from home commuting the rest of my life and it was staggering. That was before I even considered how much time I could spend at home on reserve at DAL. This also didn't take into account all the extra money that can be easily made as a local and super seniority you can get on bidding if you're willing to wake up early. UAL is a powerhouse and you can drive to work, not sure why anyone would give that up to commute.
