For my regional we had to practically build the plane. For my current, we had a “conversational” oral but were required to know “memory items” verbatim (and still are at each recurrent).
Are you suggesting they used to give out wings and so forth without making sure the trainee had actually earned them??

The wings themselves…..are given well before there’s been any “earning” of them. Having said that…you earn all that stuff in the weeks to follow, or you never get to use them. But the wing thing is just a photo-op and a chance to let your loved ones celebrate you a little.

Right I think they do it this way because it’s the last time the whole class is together. After indoc depending on fleet and schedule you could be anywhere at anytime

Exactly, because the next time you might see any of your indoc class mates is at the Irish pub on a layover in DUB...or OMA...since that seems to be the only place pilots like to hang out on layovers.
