It's not like becoming a doctor or astronaut. Lots of people think a little too highly of themselves.
Be careful with that. While you're correct about many (most?) of us being too full of ourselves, management would be happy to cut your pay and benefits because what we do isn't "that big of a deal."

Does amtrak have a whistle ceremony for their engineers?
Maybe you'll feel differently with your new union.

I tend to agree …….I am a big believer of excessive celebration shows there was doubt…….example go to any College graduation……the people celebrating the most are usually the family of students who are likely the first in their family to do so…….and they have every right to make that event celebratory…………go to a High School Graduation….the students with the most family in attendance are almost always the students with family members that did not achieve that for whatever reason. There is nothing wrong with this.

But completing Indoc……..great you have copies of all your kids birth certificates and Marriage liscensces……..here comes the Yellow fever vacccine!

I don’t know maybe it’s a more of a Military tradition thing ……but this is Airline #3 for me………….pass a Type course that’s non AQP ……..that’s harder than anything you’ll see at TK that’s for Sure………….and the prize for that is positive space to your domicile to be start OE with maybe like 36 hours off and in my time you HAD TO PAY for your own accommodation.

agreed..

easiest time in industry history with the most lucrative contracts…

Delta and United are hiring for ‘meat in the seat’

Instead of attitude how about gratitude and the burden of responsibility upon ones shoulders. All of us are counting on the new kids not to mess it up.

Oh yeah, it was super hard in the early 90s when our current WB captains got hired at 250 hours and a wet commercial ticket.

The whole "I had it harder" thing is so played out. Nobody cares, and clearly it's working for both DAL and UAL since they're the top two airlines.

AA does its wings handout completely separate from the new hire dinner ceremony, which is done on day 1 of new hire indoc.
When I was a new hire back in Feb 2000, we had the new hire dinner the evening of day 1. Fancy dinner at the DFW Hyatt Regency with your wife or significant other, presentation of each new hire, etc.

You didn’t get your wings until you completed the last leg of OE, at which point the CKA made a big production of pinning on the wings.
They really made you earn the wings at AA, which I kinda liked. Not sure how it’s done today, maybe all that has changed.

250 Hr?? What was that all about? The creme de la creme airline couldn't be too picky at the time?

Your info is 25 years out of date. Wings are handed out at the new hire dinner at the Hyatt after day 1 of indoc.
