You're right and I'm not even a United pilot, so I will return to lurking.

ICAO meets this fall, and they might start a 2 year period of study which is in their bylaws. Its not likely to pass since of the 36 member states of ICAO all but a handful of them have 65 as the max age in their country. If ICAO changes the age to 67 it will be 2-3 years away and then the US will have to address it, but who knows how long that will take.
You absolutely would have age 65 right now had it not been for ALPA. It was 1 vote in committee that stopped it. They do have influence in Congress.

You don’t get “an extra 2 years” unless you are already there. You get your same amount of time 2 years later, when you are more tired, more grumpy, and don’t really need the extra money anyway.

I realize that folks that want to pull the ladder up behind them are incapable of thinking about other people, but how do you not understand that stopping progression due to retirements dead in their tracks will only result in 2 more years of WBCA for the people currently in the WBCA seat?

When the world turns around you math either becomes difficult, or you start performing math like Terrence Howard.

The shortage is an imaginary crisis. Just like when Senator Blackburn asked the new FAA Administrator if we should raise the retirement age because of the pilot shortage. They she pointed out a flight that she was on that was delayed 3 hours because her original pilot crew timed out and it took a couple hours to "find other pilots". She said if we had more pilots sitting around the airport waiting for flights to open up that there would not be as many delayed flights.

Fortunately the FAA admin guy just smiled and said it doesn't work that way. He also said its dead in the water until ICAO changes their age.

Except they won't be in WBCA seats if ICAO age doesn't change, which is why LEPF has shifted their efforts to lobby ICAO. Most of these guys will just get moved to new categories that are domestic only NB and have to go through training again etc. Also since all the domestic only categories will likely just be 65+ this means that some of the retirees will have to be FOs, which they won't like at all and likely won't do it. Just like those herpes that said they wanted to stay past age 60, but when they found out they weren't going to be DC-10 or 747 SO and instead going to be on the 727 they decided to retire.

GK, WM, and the other 570’s and 539’s would loooovvveee two more years. GK thinks that every First Officer if woefully unqualified to fly without his expertise and guidance in the cockpit. He’s a modern day hero and needs two more years to be able to mentor and shape future captains. Just ask him, he’ll
tell you how stupid and dangerous everyone other than him is.
