Yes, I get that my first comment angered some folk because they perceived it as a money grab comment, and I also get that LTD is not cheap, but it's a heck of a lot better to have it than not. That, to me, should be the point.
I would much rather be adding to my own 401k by working instead of hoping for another year of LTD but I can't, and I hope you and the others who disliked my comment realize that that was my simple point. Everyone should favor improving LTD and adding two years would be an improvement, plain and simple.

Issue becomes the perception is a lot of these LEPF people plan to misuse the system. They don't actually want to fly the extra 2 years, but now that LTD is good at the legacies, they will just sit those 2 years on LTD.

Furthermore by age 65 your “insurable need” should be zero. You should have a nice tidy 401k to carry you off to retirement. Why should we pay exorbitant rates for 2 extra years of LTD that no one should really need.
I don’t understand why people think this is free money. It’s a product that an insurance company sells for a profit. The insurance company takes in more money than it gives out. In this case it’s going to take it money from young pilots, subtract their substantial profit, then pay a lesser amount out to a bunch or rich Widebody Captains, who may or may not have saved appropriately for retirement, but none of them paid for LTD to age 67 over the course of their career.

If you didn’t pay for it, then you shouldn’t get it.

LTD is in the contract. It will continue until "normal retirement age". If the age goes to 67, then those on LTD will continue receiving checks...regardless of your feelings. We all "paid for" the UPA. Sunvox was just pointing out a potential impact of an age change that may be beneficial to a very small group of pilots.

Honestly I'm a little surprised at the response online to my point. FYI I was diagnosed with Stage IV rectal cancer and went through 2 years of radiation, chemo, and surgery. Happily 2 years later I'm a bit of a medical miracle as my PETScans, MRI, and Signatera blood test all show no sign of cancer which is far from typical for a person with Stage IV colorectal cancer.
Up until I got diagnosed I was the perfectly healthy specimen, living life as a vegan, and exercising 3 times a week at minimum, and I was expecting to go until 65 especially after paying my dues in the right seat for 5 years when the age went from 60 to 65.
But . . . life throws you curve balls sometimes. After surgery I'm in the bathroom 10 to 20 times a day so no more flying for me. I was forced to retire by this situation at 57 and lost the best years of retirement saving potential, and I see LTD as a type of insurance for all not a boondoogle for a few. Sorry if some here disagree. I hope none of the folks throwing aspersions my way ever end up on LTD.
Sheeesh.

I'm as far as you can get from MAGA. I also supported the Pandemic Recovery Agreement in spite of being "top third". There's absolutely nothing inconsistent in what I say and do.

The top 5% of wage earners pay 61% of all income taxes. That's everyone over $260k which is probably everyone here that isn't a new hire.

Social Security, LTD, Medicare, etc are all systems we pay money into it. Its our money. Just because some government entity acts as a go-between doesn't mean its "socialist". Its not free. We are paying for it up front.
