Selfish for sure, but just thought I'd point out something not mentioned in this discussion of age 67 and something that might be considered a benefit to all as in a type of improved disability insurance.

Who do you think pays for that (if you’re not at Delta).

So these guys who have never paid the soon to be higher rates are going to collect 2 extra years of disability at the expense of the younger guys who will have to pay substantially higher rates their entire careers.

If this happens age 65+ should be its own separate LTD pool paid for by the 65+ pilots exclusively. Wanna work past 65, cool half your paycheck goes to LTD.

yea and everyone who’s not out on disability is gonna have to pay a higher premium to cover those extra years. So now you are ok with stealing from the younger pilots .. got it

Gosh, I can’t imagine why he cares so deeply about this issue! Surely it’s not because he has a brother who’s a WB CA at a major airline who is approaching age 65 and has openly told his FOs he’s hoping for a retirement age increase so he can spend those additional years collecting disability. No way a US Congressman would abuse his powers for family gain 🙄

FYI- Many are saying 67. While it’s certainly possible, that’s what it ultimately may end up being. LEPF’s mission is to Eliminate or Raise the pilot retirement age. It could be a stair step approach, but i It very well may end up being 68/70 or no age when it’s all said and done. It’s very possible you’ll see new legislation in both houses of Congress in the next few months.

They can introduce new legislation all they want, it won't get to 60 votes in the Senate. Just like the previous bills, it will die on the vine as a standalone bill.

It's a lobbying group for age 65+. Let Experienced Pilots Fly. Or Ladders Expertly Pulledup Foryou. Something like that.

This is the worst argument I've heard so far. If so many of the 60+ are on LTD we should probably not be raising the age without stricter medicals/oversight/check rides. So LTD cost would go up already.. I'm not against the age going up, because I assume I'll be fully capable of working till I'm 67. If it turns out enough of us aren't the age should not be raised. Using LTD as a tool to supplement your 401k, especially if you didn't pay into the cost associated with that is a horrible suggestion. Sure it's nice for you to get another two years of pay, but it's the younger pilots that will be paying the premium for it. Most selfish and ignorant post of the month. The stagnation for 2 years is a cost to those junior already..

Yes, yes they are. The company bottom line (think profit sharing) is also impacted.

Also, and I’m painting with a broad brush here, the old guys are the absolute worst. Yeah, I said it. Experience is only a piece of the puzzle that makes a safe and effective Captain. As a UA newbie that comes with significant part 121 experience, and is right in the middle of the youngest and oldest age-wise, I often fly with much younger Captains that have a fraction of my experience. I thought flying with those youngins would be rough when I came to work here and thought that flying with the experienced pilots would be great overall. WOW, was I wrong.

Amongst the boomer pilots often exists this old-school military hierarchical arrogance that is anti-collaborative, and anti-CRM. They seem to operate like there’s only one person that matters in the flight deck. The new generation of pilots were raised on CRM. This quicker the antiquated mentality leaves the industry, the safer it will be.

Personally, I’d prefer flying with a 30-year-old Captain over a 64-year old Captain all day, everyday, and thrice on Sunday 'cause I usually fly 3 legs on Sundays. I dunno, maybe it’s just my fleet or something.

In totally unrelated news, I hope the industry sees less perfectly good triples nearly going into the drink.
