Default Delta guy asking about ZED on United

Couple quick questions...Do they charge for checked bags and what do they do with bag if you don't make the flight? We will nonrev on Delta 2 hrs later if we miss UA flight. FYI, were flying out of a very small airport. Thanks

We don't ZED on or own carrier, so the rules wouldn't be the same, but the info is here: https://www.flyzed.info/UA#heading-6.

Can you still ZED if retired?

Depends on the agreement with the airline but generally speaking, yes you can.

Don’t know Delta’s agreement w/ UAL but I’ve never seen an airline charge ZED flyers for their standard allowance of checked bags.

Having said that I try to avoid checking bags if at all possible when NR. There is protocol to be followed with your bags when you don’t get on but I find it’s pretty inconsistently applied. I think it’s just that your boarding status is so last minute & you’re a bottom priority as far as most of the operation is concerned that dealing with your bags can become an afterthought.

In theory if you don’t get on, your bags should get pulled back to the UAL baggage facility until you either go pick them up from UAL at your departure airport or file a claim with the airline you do ultimately travel on (in your case Delta) at your arrival airport so that they can claim it from UAL & return it to you. In actual practice, they may go on without you, they may not; & if not, it may be a few days before you see them again.

It’s nice to not have to lug all your stuff through the airport, but if it’s ever an option to leave the full sized hairspray at home & just carry everything on the flight it could save you a lot of hassle.
