Yeah, I don’t agree with this at all. You can still be reassigned into operating your former DH home (or any other flight) even if you don’t fake it. In fact, I’d argue you’re more likely to be reassigned if you sit around in a hub for an extra 3 hours or 24 hours or whatever, compared to if you had just pulled the plug and gone home. Read the UPA before you do it and comply with the requirements, sure, but I don’t think anyone should be afraid to fake a DH.

I personally don’t call to fake until I’ve landed on my last flying leg… then I check flights and make a decision, make a res, call deviation desk, and then checkin… crew desk has to offer 50% premium now before out of base reassignment… so that decreases odds of getting original DH cxld and having to work.
There's zero reason to fake ahead of time. You have to call again after blocking in to get released anyways unless all that's left is a deadhead in the current duty period only. Calling the deviation desk after landing counts as getting released after blocking in and it's normally pretty quick to get through to them.

because getting a fake put on your schedule and getting released to the fake are two different things.. for more explanation you need to read 5-D-5 which explains the difference of when you have a fake with an intervening off duty period and one without . They have difference contractual requirements

I don’t think what you are saying about the 50% is correct in this situation. If a reserve is already on a trip and there is open flying that needs be covered you can be reassigned under 20-I-5 or 20-J ( depending on if it’s an equipment base or not ) with no requirement for them to put it out at 50%. Do you have a contract reference?
