The big merger talks on this website are by people who want it to happen for personal reasons, not what the Willis Tower crowd wants. Personally, I see any potential consolidation happening at the regional and LCC level but not at the big 4. Either way, we’re just along for the ride.

Here’s how this could work. AA is going to have terrible numbers with Jet A priced where it is. A strategic chapter 11 filing, followed by the merger. If corporate wants this to happen, they can massage the numbers. Your 767s and 757s go away, replaced by our 787s and XLRs. Our 777s go away. Some of our old America West/USAir 320s and and legacy AA 737-800a go away. The newer ones probably get kept. Our Max 8s join your 737 fleet. Network efficiencies will allow for a smaller combined fleet than both airlines currently operate, particularly on the narrow body side.
