"Go along to get along"?
Maybe if you have a job that pays minimum wage..... but not when there is so much at stake monetarily and would be a stake in the heart to explain in a subsequent interview after getting fired ...

I know averages can be misleading, but still??? Would probably be a little late to take the MCAT and apply for med school. Don't eff it up

Timid? This is a softball situation.
Look back and see random dude saunter into cockpit...sir, Im going to have to ask you to leave the flight deck. Done. Doesn't leave? Ok, get FA up and say it again. Then have FA stay and shut the door.
Better yet, uh, hey CA, I don't care what the #1 said, here, I looked it up in the FOM, says we keep the door shut.
Case closed.

I figured after this dragging on for years I get on here and tell the story since I was privy to the investigation.
Captain-20+ year UA Pilot. Instructor experience. Second charter flown in UA career. Briefs with pursur that the door will be open throughout flight. Her previous charter flight with the Broncos the door was left open and individuals from the team came to the flight deck during flight. During flight allows coach to sit in jumpseat for about 35 minutes. Coach takes video and pictures while in jumpseat. Leaves for restroom after. Claims to not have seen coach in her seat and flight deck door was shut while in restroom.
FO-15 months on property. First charter at any airline. Overhears brief between CA and FA. Asks CA about why door is left open. CA tells him about her experience with Broncos charter and how United make exceptions for sports charters. He asks FA to confirm. FA tells him they leave door open all the time on Rockies charters. He reluctantly agrees. Didn’t tell coach to get in CA’s seat. Heard CA’s voice in galley while video was being filmed.
Lead FA-CA asked her to keep the door open. Asked why she wouldn’t question it? Had previous CA’s that wanted her to keep door open. Coming back from refilling drinks and cleaning up saw the CA outside of the cockpit looking in. Rockies coach left flight deck minutes later
FA taking video- flown charters for 9.5 years for Rockies and KC Chiefs. Door being open on charters was typical. Served coach alcohol before he entered flight deck. CA left flight deck unannounced so she goes up there for two man rule. Takes video. No input from FO. Says CA is “near” while taking video
Coach in seat-Says he and other staff have been in the flight deck on UA charters before during flight. Said nobody told him to get in CA’s seat.
Other Rockies staff in main video-says he’s been on the flight deck twice on UA charters. Has seen the door open and closed on UA charters during career. Said the CA was by the flight deck door as he walked into the flight deck, and when he walked out she was by the flight deck door.

121.547 covers admission to the flight deck.
The FOM covers who can sit in a crew member station, door procedures, duties & responsibilities, and so much more that was violated here. Supposedly the captain chose one of the former IAH reps as her guidance rather than her own in DEN, and then hired her own lawyers to fight her case for her. A lot of terrible judgement happened, and her ASAP/FSAP should never have been accepted on the grounds of the willful violations of policies that occurred.

The FO losing his job is unfortunate. Being a probationary pilot, paired up with a LCP…..and then placed into that scenario. Sucks. He absolutely needed to advocate and then assert, but I understand why it must have been difficult.

Funny stuff happens on charters and ferries. Common sense is replaced by go along to get along.
I hate to be that guy, but in my opinion the FO should’ve been let go also. It would send a clear message to every timid FO who may feel pressure to look the other way to speak up.
