Picketing shows solidarity and that's all well and good, Howsumever! Wouldn't the Pilots Be BETTER SERVED By getting their Act together and gaining ONE single seniority LIST and Single Bargaining Stance?? I support what you're doing, BUT I can't halp but feel that you guys are WASTING PRIME TIME in Not getting it together and throwing down ONE FIST! To say "This situation is CROCK of CRAP and we're not Having it!" Then PROCEED to Get RID of IT! 10,000 Guys on the Same Page TOGETHER Can't Lose! You guys are the ONLY group AT United that Can't be readily Replaced.. You guys could bring Serious Attention to your "Displeasure" EXCEPT, You don't appear to be Serious. and Image is EVERYTHING! It Appears Management thinks that this "issue" is just a bunch of Continental Pilots "Whining". Nobody in the OCC (north) is looking "concerned" about it, so it leads ME to believe that this issue is either for "SALE", OR, Not worth the Time to Waste on it. Because if it WERE?
CAL-ALPA and UAL-ALPA would have ALREADY been "galvanized" into Action and speaking with a SINGLE Voice. Saying "Enough is enough"!! So If you are? Then you're Not saying it Where they can HEAR it! In the Negotiating room.. (though I vould be wrong and I Hope I am)

we're working on it. First, a joint contract, then a combined seniority list. Thats the way it works at Alpa now-a-days. mgmt submitted a comprehensive proposal and Alpa is working on a counter due early next month. The seniority list is being worked on as we speak, however, it will most likely go to arbitration which will not happen until we have a joint contract. Meanwhile, we have to deal with this RJ issue NOW. Which is being done with pickets and legal (contractual) means.

jsled,

Both the JCBA and SLI can be looked at together, but, as you said, JCBA first.

I hope the whole JCBA is an improvement, but real section 1 improvements relating to scope/JV is the key not only to true job security but making the hopefully equal dissatisfaction with the final SLI that much more acceptable.

What I'm saying is, the SLI will hopefully suck equally for all. However, because of recovering flying to mainline, all will see a net push up the ladder to cover that flying and improve their status as outsourced flying comes back in house.

The contracts the company has with outsourced carriers won't be recaptured in a moment. That is reality. However, until a JCBA is in place that begins the process of returning that flying is in place, all NewCo pilots are in an undesirable position.

Good on everyone that showed up!

If everyone is a little ****ed it was probably about right

I wouldn't be surprised to see a bit of an exodus as well after a JCBA is ratified. I think some over the over 60 crowd might be hanging out to see what kind of retro check they might get. So hopefully there is some impetus for recalls/movement there as well.

Finally, I'd like to thank our UAL brethren who came out and sweated with us today in IAH. Final tally was just over 300 today in IAH with 350 or so in EWR yesterday. Great job yesterday and today guys and gals! Carry it through to ORD next week!

Um, we have people to do that. They are called the Joint Negotiating Committee and the Merger Committees. My negotiating committee speaks for me and all of us know that THEY know this is an important issue, so unless you are in the room with our JNC you don't have a clue as to the resolve on this issue.

That is exactly the case. I have flown with and have friends in the other bases who have flown with over 60 guys who have stated they would be crazy to leave right now. They want to see a contract with full retro before they punch out. Guess I can't blame them but I wish they would leave already!

luv757,

Even if everyone is really ****ed, again the returns from securing true section 1 revision will probably enhance everyone's position by a factor well beyond any section 3 gains.

Wish I was close enough to participate....have to find all my uniform stuff anyway and it is in a box somewhere unknown.

Good on you guys starting to pull on the same end of the rope realizing that the SLI will be no one's idea of perfection. Get the JCBA that protects you going forward.

Keep it up.

The 70 seaters of today at UAL will fade away or go to other legacy "express" carriers until mainline plots at DAL, AA, USAir, learn the hard lesson of scope, that we at UAL have lived for the last decade.
I would love to see a lot of that flying come back to UAL Pilots, but tell me how that is going to happen. Are they going to give it back out of the goodness of their heart? Are they simply going to agree to make flying those passengers more expensive because they think that UAL Pilots "deserve it?"

I have heard over the past several months that legacy carriers are learning that many high-roller pax are growing weary of the UAX experience and that bringing some of that flying back to the mainline would be smart. But other than that why would they just automatically shift that flying back to aircraft and crews that are clearly much more expensive to operate?
