Not upset at all. He would be doing at least as well or better with the info on Prefbid. Suggesting to others that you have to pay for the information he obtained is wrong. Especially when there is a risk that the information could be wrong or incomplete.
What I am saying about other resources not working for some pilots is not the fault of those resources. I flew with a guy recently that complained at length about PBS. He admitted after the rant was over that he made no effort to utilize any of the resources provided to him. Calforums would not have helped a guy like him either. If he won't get off his rear end he is unlikely to get his wallet out.

But the 3rd largest thread on CAL Forums after Politics and Aviation News are Stock Tips! They analyze stocks and companies. Who wouldn't pay to get a stock tip from an airline pilot!

Calfourms is what helped him and through him it also is helping the LUAL Capts he referenced that did not use the other sources Clearly this is a success and the place deserves its credit for helping pilots that were in the dark and frustrated. Got to give credit where it is due.

It's been a useful place for factual info due to the incredibly poor communication from the company that has always existed at LCAL (that LUAL unfortunately now knows about), as well as the from the union. 1,000+ pilots with eyes and ears open bring a lot of decent info to the table. The UAL Union has greatly improved the comm flow IMO.
It's fairly common for someone to join that forum when they're running for an office because it is so broadly read by the LCAL pilots. Most promptly stop their participation as soon as they're in office, due to pressures from the union leadership primarily I think. Unfortunately it leaves a cynical impression since they get what they want--votes--then leave.

Have you ever been on ualpilotsforum.org? Are you saying there is a 'hive mentality' there or on APC?

Don't be a hater. Guys like the site and pay for the info. You don't want to pay...don't do it. Pretty simple really. 1200-2400 guys have in the past or are now paying him. Good for him. Someone is making money off this site too. With all the advertising probably more that Benton is over at Calforms. Good for who ever that is.

Yes there most certainly is a "hive mentality" over at ual pilotsForum.org. That's why I came over here at least you get both sides of the story so to speak.

What's amazing to me is that in 2014 there isn't an official union-run or at least union-authorized forum for us to ask the many questions that come up everyday and for them to communicate more interactively with us. PDRs are ok but it would be nice to have a more dynamic interaction with our union committees and leadership. However I think the lawyers won't allow it because of how easy it would be for the company to misuse lawyer-unvetted comm.

We had an ALPA forum that was closed by court order. So a new one that wasn't ALPA sponsored was created and everyone just moved over to it. I don't know exactly why ALPA couldn't sponsor the forum itself, but UALPilotsForum.org is the LUAL official forum. You have to use a real name, no cost, and no scabs, ever. It is secure and not openly readable to the public like this one.
