I am not certain about the 8 going to GUM in the first class. The bid had 8 vacancies in GUM, and the FAQ said they would tell you if you were accepting a class that had GUM vacancies. Did someone make an assumption? It sure seems like they need people in EWR more with something like 98 vacancies. With a class of 12 running every 2 weeks totaling around 200 pilots to be hired, this hiring should run thru April. When will United have to start hiring in preparation for retirements in December of next year, summer 2012? I would expect anyone hired at CO to go back to UA if there isn't a contract by then.

Good news is that after that no one should have to worry about Guam. |
Be Ready...to accept or decline GUM.

Has anyone gotten a call yet from Ted M. at UAL concerning a job a CAL?
|
Sounds like they still have unresolved issues that are preventing the calls from going out. Sure getting both companies to agree on how/when to do this for the coordinators is like pushing a wet noodle up hill with your nose.

Rumor has it that the first class has all 8 Guam slots are in the first class and that it will take 400 to get the first class filled.
If this is true, then it will pretty much put the 189 voluntary furloughs in a 30+ day by pass cycle. This will also allow more junior guys to come back until the 30 days pass. It's going to be an interesting and telling week. FMT |

That would be interesting, since they are out of the hiring pool for 30 days, they may fill two classes before they can re-enter the process. This would give some folds south of 400 a shot.

Actually think the TPA says up to 30 days. Think you could turn down the first class, put your name back in that day and maybe be in the class two weeks later.
(ii) No Pilot shall be entitled to more than two (2) offers of employment pursuant to this Section 7-B. If a Pilot declines the first offer, the employing Airline will not contact him for a second offer until he provides at least thirty (30) days notice to the employing Airline in writing of his desire to re-enter the hiring process. At that time he will be eligible for the next available offer in seniority order. |
How long do you have to respond to the offer?

Straight off page 11 off the TPA, looks like by the time they get in writing and mailed they could miss out on two classes if there are 2 per month. |

No calls yet as they are trying to figure out what to do if guys bypass because of the Guam slots. Make them wait 30 days or put them back in the next class if they want to.

DR, a guess or fact? Someone else posted the delay had to due with Mil LOA. I had gotten an email Tuesday saying there was one issue left to be resolved.

Who answered that?

My mistake. When I asked about bypassing if Guam was going to be your base was told that you could send your 30 day notice to them and would likely be eligible for the next class. That was only for the first class since they expect it to go along way down the list to get 8 volunteers. FWIW

date Thu, Aug 4, 2011 at 8:11 AM subject Update - CO New Hire Opportunity Fellow Furloughees, As many of you are aware the phone calls have not started. We have been working several logistical internal issues that have slowed down the process. We are still looking at an October 4th start date for the first class and this slight delay will only compress our internal process to achieve that date. As a point of clarification, the phone calls we will make will not be the official offer. The phone calls are meant to give you a heads up that your seniority number falls within the range that could be offered a class date. We will inform you about the process, what to expect and answer questions you might have. We will give you as much information as possible so you may make the best decision you can about this opportunity. I truly believed we were going to be in a position to make the phone calls this week but it is better to get these issues resolved so we can begin the process the right way. I will email you all once the phone calls have begun. Sincerely, Ted McCaughan Furlough Coordinator, Flight Operations United | 233 S. Wacker Drive, 23rd Floor – WHQFO | Chicago, IL 60606 Tel. 872 825 9416 | [email protected] |
Sad we are starting week 4 (14 Jul) since the hiring announcement and they still can't announce the process. Reading the other posts about UAL/CO guess it shouldn't be a surprise.
