Default Great UAL history lesson

For those interested in a time-capsule of UAL pilot labor history, here's a site that pretty well sums-up some the highlights of the last 4 decades. Clicking through this site has a goldmine of history and perspective for both United AND Continental.

Also, I have to applaud a candidate that announces a willingness to run with enough time to be vetted by membership. If all candidates would provide the same courtesy!

I like the history lesson but I don't understand his position on scope. He talks about UAL pilots flying 90 plus seat aircraft and suggests that we meet with The Unions of UAX to combine flight operations.

Everyone (except this gentleman) seem to know that Skywest is the largest regional at UAX and they are non-union.

This is all my personal opinion, so take it for what it's worth.

I believe that he is keenly aware of the representational issues. However, instead of capitulating on scope I see him offering a solution that could both eliminate the threat that outsourced small gauge flying presents to current UAL/CAL pilots while providing a career path for current UA Express affiliated pilots.

I can't imagine a CAL/UAL JCBA ratified by the membership that relaxes scope. So, without a long term solution, the effect of small gauge regional flying will always be a career whipsaw: affiliate against affiliate and mainline against affiliate.

My view is that he wants to think outside the box to find a sustainable solution for pilot labor.

I want to see him talk about how he is going to get us furloughed guys back on property LONG before he talks about offering to "merge the regional guys" into our operation and reduce the importance of scope.

After being on the street twice, I am looking for representation for me; not reaching out to those who are not represented by our ALPA group.

Didn't you get the memo? ALPA is now the regional pilots union of choice, look how many regional jobs have been created by ALPA. If they had represented mainline pilots over the past ten years we would not be furloughed now.

I think we will see a sunset on the 70 seaters and bringing 90-100 seaters on mainline property in this next contract. Just my opinion after taking with a few union reps. We will see....

Expensive gas is here to stay. The 50 seat RJs will die a slow death.

Hell the dash 400 makes twice as much sense and is more comfortable to sit in by a large margin. At least untill you get to the 70 seat EMB. Probably burns half the gas.
