I was looking at the spreadsheet that had the combined UAL/CAL pilot lists. When I sorted it based on DOB it showed about 2500 pilots retiring during the first 5 years following next December.

Wow. That tune sounds familiar.
... like when I warned UAL pilots of the pitfalls of PBS prior to C2003. That fell on deaf ears. How'd that turn out?
... like when I started warning of a grassroots effort pushing for age 65 in 2004. That fell on mostly deaf ears. How'd that turn out?

Or are you in favor of another age increase to 70 on the heels of the last age change?

Would you believe that the age 65 thing was not about pilots, but more about the BPGC. There was a big push to get pilots, that had their pensions turned over to the PBGC, 100% pay a 60 vs waiting until 65 to get 100%. Paying the pilots 100% at 60 was not a big deal, but if the pilots got 100% at 60 then all other groups that had their pensions turned over to the PBGC would expect and probably get 100% at 60 - This they could not afford! It's really that simple.
