Stong infomation! Would you care to give name and approximate dates these guys said that? Not true, is it?

No, it is true, although I should have phrased it more like a question, which was how it was usually presented such as . . . .

"What would you rather do, fly the 747 or RJs, because we can't do both".

I always felt we would have more control, especially in the area of quality, if we owned or had a significant financial interest in the product. I was clearly in the minority.

However, it may have been naive on my part to even think we could have afforded both.

I really can't argue the premise, but I think our guys thought they could manage the RJ growth. 9/11 happened and Tilton used the good will/pride we had in United and used it against us. I don't think anybody thought he would be able to park a fleet of 737's and replace them with RJ's. Tilton used our desire to combat the evil's of 9/11. What can I say, I still salute the American Flag, but Pi$$ on Tilton.
