indeed. never seen a CAL bid result. does it tell you how many unfilled vacancies on final result?

Lighten up. Just agreeing that 2-3 year upgrades in the last decade for CAL maybe a thing of the past...

The only way it would not be 243 new hires is if some of the many CAL pilots on long term leaves (personal, mil, furlough bypass, etc) come back during the year. I don't know of any way to predict how many will come back. But, I would imagine there will be quite a few.

I think there is both a MIN or MAX staffing level on each system bid award??? I know in the past not every spot has been filled.

This is their point I think. Since there is no backfilling of people leaving various bases for new bases then far less new hires are created. However a net increase in pilots is a net increase if u look at min and max numbers also????

I don't anybody has much of an idea how this works or how many new hires there will be, myself even less than anyone else. Yet to see a detailed explanation of how CALs bid process works....

If not all the secondary vacancies get filled ... e.g. 5 IAH 737 CAs bid to DEN 737 CA to quit commuting, but only three of them are replaced in IAH ... you could finish the bid without adding 243 new bodies. (I'm not a CO guy, but have seen this at other carriers I've worked for ...)

Incorrect!

They have only gone through 700 + of the 1437 furloughed pilots at united to be offered the positions. They have not even sent out letters for the 247 vacancy bid. Once L-Cal finishes the bid they will need to send out letters to the L-UAL side to fill the positions. If it becomes a true 247 vacancy and they are unable to fill with L=UAL pilots then and only then can they start to hire off the street and that would probably be around November. That can all change if they come up with a TA and it is approve.

On the UAL forum there is a post referencing Furlough update #17 where it states that 1068 job offers have been made so far....I have not read the update.

Also another thread on this forum talks about rumors of an additional 90 letter going out with the 8 ball having a Feb 4th 2001 hire date.

Not a rumor... talked to LUAL furlough coordinator myself. Also, received a follow-up email confirming our conversation. Basically, there is another 250-275 more to be offered a LCAL job before being through the list. However, all 1437 are "STILL" on furloughed status at the original United Airlines.
