L-UAL parking 80 757s
#1
Fox said in ground school ual parking 80 out of 93 757s due to corrosion and overall age. Will be replaced one for one by CAL new 737-900s and NGs that were always on order. Quoted ual fleet as a boneyard. But I guess that was all part of the "right sizing" for the cal merger.

Isn't Fox also the old guy who is about or has turned 65 and doesn't want to leave his job. I could be wrong and confusing him with another old guy from CAL management.
Now as far as parking all those 757s and replacing them with ordered -900, who cares.
First there are contractual issues with replacements and ratios and stuff (maybe there is a need for a new contract). Second they need to be replaced because they are getting old. And third the bad part is the -900 will never be a direct replacement for the 757.
The -900 can't ETOPS from DEN to HNL.
The -900 can't even go from the East Coast to SFO without a fuel stop if the winds are bad and one needs an alternate.
I could go on but neither Boeing nor Bus makes a direct replacement for the 757.
Hey but there is good news! The -900 has a smaller cockpit with worse jump seats... Oh that's bad news, no place to store bags either....
It's a sad day when we keep Fox and park 757s
:-(

Ahhh...the public mental masturbation of yet another scab in the CP office...and helpfully repeated by Rocketiii.
Every aircraft in the current UCH fleet will be replaced eventually. Every single one. Even the "new" CAL 757s that in reality are only two years 'newer' than the junior member of the L-UAL 757 fleet.
Aircraft retirements have been a pretty constant theme now for 80+ years at both subsidiaries. In the current instance UCH has even been very public with the fact that new narrow bodies are being shopped.
