So you were happy with UAL furloughing 2200+ after 9/11? Wait. I'm sorry. Please, give me my opinion so I'll know what it is. Thanks.

Have a clue, and I could care what your opinion might be. No doubt you were thrilled with the furloughs and would be happy to step over anyone to move up. Oh wait thats why you joined alpa.

Are the S-CAL pilots flying the L-UAL aircraft now??? I must have missed that memo.

They would first chance.

Seriously?

What are we missing here? 9/11, X number of pilots and you furlough to achieve Y. Is that not the definition of too many? Or was there some other reason why LUAL furloughed? LCAL did the same thing. We HAD too many pilots, and furloughed 660+ after 9/11.

Oh that.

Are you sure that parking aircraft (including entire fleets) had nothing to do with suddenly having too many pilots post 9/11 at UAL? Off the top of my head, UAL parked 75 727s and 22 737-200s by Halloween 2001 and followed up by eliminating the 767-200. Shortly thereafter the 747-400 fleet was reduced to 26 (from 44) and the 777 to 52 (from 60) and about 62 737-300/500s were parked which cumulatively led to UAL furloughing 2172 by 2004. In typical UAL fashion, too many pilots were furloughed and the recalls began only a few months after the last furlough.

Why would I be thrilled? Cause I got to enjoy my three year furlough stint? You got me there. Thrilled to death. Thrilled watching CAL take no pay cuts or concessions until the furloughs were back on property. Thrilled watching new hires with no insurance for 6 months after the concessions. Thrilled watching 59 1/2 year old's salivate at the prospect of getting 5 more years on the backs of the junior pilots. Ecstatically thrilled.

Always the age 60 thing, the last one I flew with walked the cal picket line now he sits 777 fo here close to reserve instead of your honorable group. You should be thanking him.

You will be thrilled the first chance you get to go over the top of someone, it's easy to see.

Guess where Mr. new hire winds up? On the street for say a short decade? Roll the dice and take your chances here at UCH my friend. But don't say you weren't warned.

That's the gamble we all took as new hires - where ever we ended up. Coming here this fall could be the best - or worst - decision someone could ever make. No way to know till it all plays out sometime down the road.

Eternally optimistic (sort of)

Your right. Dal hired 07-08 hundreds with hundreds still on loa and furlough bypass. They have not been furloughed as more senior pilots have returned. Only way to know at uch will be in 2020.
