A letter from Lee Moak

I don't know all the particulars, but in most cases /states they still have to pay an agency fee or a charge which is the equivalent of what they'd pay in dues. I know that the R's are tying like hell to kill this. Somebody chime in on this with clarification.
There is another clause where they can proclaim fealty to some weird church or something. Please slack me, I'm a Pastafarian
so I know bupkis about other religions.
Bottom line, they're cheap. They're scabs. They way I look at it, if you work under a negotiated contract and are paid according to it, then you pay dues to the entity that negotiated it and protects your job.
This is not an ALPA endorsement, it is an endorsement of collective bargaining.
You don't pay dues, then you negotiate your own deal with the company.
Good luck with that. Let us know how it goes the first time you step on your crank or ding an airplane. You seldom get to hear of the guys whose jobs are saved by the union. They are usually pretty tight lipped.

In speaking with IAH CPO's Muir, he said it's a "grey area". There are "few" pilots within our ranks that just don't pay dues b/c they are Conscientious Objectors, but withholding dues in light of this matter is obviously NOT the same thing.....It's the principle of the foot dragging and the potential of kicking the can down the road for a long period of time, thus not seeing the money only to receiving more lip service.
A few more phone calls, I'll let you know what I find out.

But, I am fine with paying dues, the dues check off is for the convenience of ALPA, so the mother ship gets all the money it is entitled to, and at regular and predictable intervals. Great for business.
I would be more OK with paying dues when it is convenient for me, perhaps once a year like when I pay the IRS their fee on April 15th.

ALPA needs to stay but the new MEC should have only new faces .
People from the past from both sides CAL and UAL will always blaming each other and that will NEVER bring Unity for the 2017 Go big or go home goal for ALL united pilots
My 2 cents

Just like every other slime-filled, ambulance(cruise ship) chaser out there. They heard/saw $450M and being the scum that they are, just had to have a piece. Can anyone tell the difference between lawyers and scabs anymore?

That's a pretty ignorant statement. Surely you're intelligent enough to know that not all attorneys are opportunists. There are many areas of law they can practice, just as there are many fields of aviation you could have pursued. I felt the need to comment because I am married to a lawyer, and she has far greater ethics than most of the pilots I know. To compare someone like her to a scab disgusts me.

USSERA (federal) -This would be military
LTD (federal) - Pilots on disability status
State of residence (Florida and/or California) ??
DFR (federal) - probably both LTD and military?
ALPA has a history of framing this like this: "if we give something to one group of pilots that means we take it away from others." Just read it in Jay's brief. Read it carefully to decide where most of the problem in thinking really lies at the CAL MEC.
It is not really that astounding that the UAL MEC came up with one method of calculation, and the CAL MEC came up with another. Problem lies with Pierce.
