Need to add about 10 more smiling faces. Wait until March and 49 of the new contract rules take effect, most being on the sCAL side.

Two questions:

1. Is it fair to assume that many of the 756 openings are due to the Contract requirement for an IRO for international? Example would be EWR-DUB now requires 3 pilots?

2. How far out do the openings project forward? End of year or to a certain time in 2013.

Thanks.. Still hoping for a call someday

This bid was for 2/14 ie everybody should be where they are by the end of Feb, 2014. Looking at PBS lines awarded for this month, there were only 13 guys on reserve in IAH on the 75...this leads to either very efficient scheduling, LUCK, or a lot of JR manning.

UAL on both sides is very understaffed and WAY WAY WAY behind the power curve as far as hiring. IMHO even if the CAL side filled all these unfilled FO vacancies tomorrow, they'd still not have enough to fight the new FAA and contract rules. They'll also be losing UAL retreads that go back to the UAL side from our recall, but honestly, unless those guys are volunteer furloughs that want to go back to the 74 or 77 or CAP, they can hold a better line and bigger aircraft at the CAL side than going back to the POS...I mean BUS at UAL.

So the long and short of it is that UAL is in big trouble hiring wise and the flood gates are gonna have to open very soon. We all want you here just as bad, if not more so than you want to be here! Good luck and don't give up!!

Not to mention mid-2005 holding 756 CAP.

Same pay as the guppy and the trips suck, no wonder.

KC- Thank you for the solid insight! I am not giving up and hoping that somehow I can be lucky enough for a call whenever the hiring starts.

Here is my assumption based on limited knowledge and trying to stay positive for all interested parties:

-SLI is on course but might take a bit longer than thought delaying into summer 13 for final award and decision.
-L-UAL pilots waiting to take recalls on UAL pilot list
-CAL will have to hire off the street in 2nd Q 2013 and not 4th Q as reported on the forum here.
-to dumb it down a bit the planning by UAL/CAL to not have to hire off the street until 4th Q might backfire and the hiring might occur sooner rather than later as classes in March-until SLI award might not be filled by all L-UAL furloughs
-L-UAL pilots have until 2018 to come back to the property and will elect to return or not return based upon own need.

Not trying to speculate too much but I just don't see CAL being able to count on filling slots until the above happens.

IADBLRJ41, can I assume from your screenname you were at ACA? There's a ton of us at CAL/UAL. Track us down on ipilots.org and hit up the guys you've flown with for a LOR. That should improve your odds a bit. I wasn't ever on the -41 or I'd help you.

IAH 737 FO bid awards

I am having trouble understanding something and was wondering if someone could straighten me out. I notice that there are only 452 IAH 737 FO spots posted. Looking at PBS, there are currently 671 IAH 737 FO's. Are there like 300 vacancies that have gone unfilled in this BES, or does this mean some of the flying is getting moved out of houston or to another fleet (airbus??). I'm having a hard time getting an idea of where this puts me as I am basically the same percentage in base that I am now if there are only going to be 452 IAH 737 Fo's. I suspect this isn't right and there are several hundred vacancies that have gone unfilled. What have I missed?

Grab the award page.. ok at the top of each category are a series of numbers x (y) z. X is awarded positions. Y is pilots awarded positions after accounting for leaves and management. Z is total positions needed. Y may be larger than either x or z. If z is larger than x they need to hire the difference.
