Don't kid yourself - UAL didn't hire most of you guys for a reason. You need to quit telling people that cal was your first choice - it hasn't been anyone's choice since the early 70's. But if it makes you feel good to bash what will likely be the leaders of the combined group - bash on.

Are you part of the minority hiring at UAL? Because just as CAL wasnt anybody's first choice, u couldn't be a qualified white male and have gotten hired at UAL in the 90s.

Actually CAL was my #4 behind the cargo guys and Southwest. Of the legacy airlines CAL was by far the number one choice. Despite age 65 it has still generated more movement then any of the other choices. Even given the horrid culture of People Express I still know it was the best choice.

Not a single one my friends that went to UAL in my hiring cycle went there with any conviction. Thus they were not shocked at all when they got furloughed. A few shrugged their shoulders and told me they were glad they got the type rating. But happy day for us all, UAL is the probably the most sought after legacy job sought once again, well until Delta starts hiring.

I have plenty of friends at UAL. Most of them told me long ago that the vaunted toughness of UAL ALPA was a load of garbage. SYD is a realitest while you keep living in a past featuring that fearsome Rick Dubinsky image. The scoreboard over the last decade shows as with all things ALPA that management has NOTHING to fear from the pilot group.
