There are only so many carryover trips to do that with. M5D is now used for LCR also. I believe that change occurred in Sept. The other option for the computer is to take trips away from senior bidders to make legal lines for the junior bidders.

 

With a line cap of 77.5 for Oct as a line holder you are guaranteed 16 days off even as the most junior pilot, if you don't have any pre assigned activities. This is from the MD5. If you want to maximize your days off you will need to get trips that are worth more than 20 hours credit for a four day, the trade off will be to get those trips they at best will be commutable on the back end. I thought that if you were at or above the g-line and asked for a line you were guaranteed one per the UPA. PBS would hit bidders from the constraint line and below with "solution constraints" to ensure that there were enough leftover trips to build lines all the way down to the g-line guy (using denial mode if need be). Are you talking about being below the g-line and trying to get a move up line if one becomes available?

 

Good catch. I am talking about below the g-line here. After all the above g-line pilots are done there are trips left and this is an attempt to allow PBS to build a line out of these trips. The more flexibility you give PBS the more likely it is you'll capture those trips.

HOWEVER, the waiving day between blocks and the Hail Mary can still be useful to those above g-line, even those fairly senior. For instance, take someone at 50% trying to get Christmas Day off. After the normal BGs trying to get it off, a late (but not final) BG could be,

Waive Day Off, Min Days Between Work Blocks, 1
Waive, 1 in 7 Day Off in Base
Waive, Double Duty
AVOID Work 25 Dec
Award Work

If you don't get Christmas off with this then at least you know you did everything you could. And it might be worth getting "bent over" to get Christmas off, depending on ages of you kids.

Warning, there should be more bid groups after this (without the waives perhaps) that don't ask for 25th off. You don't want to go into denial mode in December and leave your fate to PBS. You'll get a 6 day block of flying from 22rd to the 27th. Ask for the 24th off and celebrate Christmas a day early, then a day late, etc.

 

If you are at or above the G-line, you are guaranteed a line only if ALL your bid groups are line bid groups. You should never put in a reserve BG if you are above the G-line and want a line.

 

Exactly. If a line is more important to you than EVER sitting reserve, days off being irrelevant to you, AWARD WORK should be the very last bid group (#20) you ask for as the catch all...with absolutely NO reserve bid groups anywhere in your previous 19. Don't be a line donor as the committee likes to say!
