American Airlines (AA) #1549 FlightAware

Ahhh... 1549 at American, to New York none the less. The outrage.

I don't see what the big deal is. It is just a flight number, nothing more. Heck, United still uses the flight number from the PDX DC8 crash (amongst others). Now that is much more weird than UA103 versus Pan Am 103, it is just a coincidence about the date.

Not exactly. IIRC, they accidentally used them as a Star Alliance codeshare numbers or something back when the COA callsign was still being used.

At the time that flight was a Senior IAH afternoon turn. Wonder when the genius that muttered that was hired?

I guess I don't see the outrage as there are hundreds of flight numbers that could cause folks to be offended. Should UAL ever use a number where a UAL aircraft was affected? No. But other airline flight numbers, I'm not going to waste any sleep on this one. We can memorialize the tragedies in much better ways than retiring their proverbial jerseys.

Hell, it wasn't uncommon for airlines to use parts of or even entire aircraft that been involved in terrorist events or accidents. Lufthansa still flew the 737-200 after the captain was murdered on flight 181.
